Pre-draft I thought he was going to be another Darko, then I saw him play against the Rockets. He is still fairly raw but if he works hard, he can be a damn good center in this league for many years to come. Tho I am sure Memphis knows this. They drafted him ahead of Harden/Evans/Rubio/Curry/Hill/Jennings, I doubt they will give him away.
Thought it would be a good time to bump this thread. With the acquisition of Williams, we are primed to make another move and Hasheem has actually had his value go even lower than when I started this thread.
Give me tha 'Beet. I'm on board. He would be a BIG (intended) difference maker on defense just by being 9 freakin inches taller than our starting center! There's always room for a 7'3" shot blocker -- those things don't grow on trees. Get it done, Morey.
Nice bump verse. I'm in on trading for Thabeet, as long as the price isn't crazy high. My only worry is having too many people on this team with questionable work ethic and attitude problems. There would be a slew of guys needing time to develop, Williams, Thabeet, Hill still needs time as well. Does this mean the Rockets are rebuilding or would this just mean acquiring solid young talent? Like I said I'm in, I think having an active 7'3 shotblocker in the middle can only be a plus IF he starts to get it. Question in my mind is, does he WANT to get it? I hope so if acquired.
A far as I can see we are a sub-500 team looking to get younger, more athletic, and somehow acquire a top tier talent to cornerstone the franchise. Whether the hype machine calls it that or not, we are rebuilding. As for Beet's work ethic, I haven't heard any dispersions. He started playing at a later age than most (ala J Hill), and may just be a late bloomer. Either way, his defensive presence alone would make the roster spot justified, imo.
I should have been clear on the comment about HT's work ethic. What I should have said is, I've read about a lack of enthusiasm and love for the game. Not sure how true the statement is, even being I try and pry him away from Memphis. It's a risk well worth taking.
His rookie contract makes him the very definition of buy low, sell high. We MUST reduce roster, and this is no incremental increase. This is filling (or at least trying to fill) a position of need. That is, unless you think our interior defense is stellar as is. Having Hill and Beet affords the team two long defenders and interior rebounders. Neither need the ball to impact the game which is important when you look at our future plans. Our scoring comes from our backcourt and wingmen. Our interior D and rebounding will be, and is, lacking tremendously.
I'm thinking more along the lines of any two of our fringe rotational players for Beet. Bud is on that list now. Jeffries, as well. So is Ish.
