Yes. Let's have more Iggy threads. He's the superstar panacea. Jopa, we are in a unique position of needing to make drastic upgrade without drastic upgrade positioning. Without a top pick we will have to take chances predicated on our needs, one of which is a paint protector. Thabeet displayed that ability both in college and in a limited NBA stretch. He is available. His cost is, presumably, low. In 3 years, if he has developed into...let's say...Theo Ratliff of younger years...will you still scoff at the ability to acquire him now on a trial, low value, basis? You have to look long term, not at what a new ballplayer (not just NBA, but in general) is doing on a team with no proper coaching and mentoring is providing. His defensive instincts are REAL. What becomes of them remains to be seen. I would take my chances on that considering it would likely be inexpensive to try. Wait til the deadline then offer Hill+ for what is, ultimately, a bigger, more proven (college D-wise) Hill on 1.5 years more of rookie contract.
If it only cost us Hill and maybe Jeffries, I'm all for it. Nothing more. I would even ask for Darrell Arthur for the troubles.
While I would love for us to hook into Roy Hibbert, Thabeet would work as a rotation player with massive upside .....Let CD and Dream work with him. Thabeet, of course has great natural shotblocking instincts which he put on display in dominating the Big East. Memphis just hasn't developed him.....and can't like we can. The Grizz would be nuts not to keep Gasol, so I would assume Thabeet can be had for a song relative to his draft position, size, and instincts alone.
The "Jordan Project" 2.7+/- vs Thaeet @ 4.8+/- ( the point it will take more than JHill ) add Brooks or Hayes and it may work?????? I like him but I don't think he is worth that IMO...
I would too, i just don't think Memphis would. Remember, they want an expiring back. Which, btw, is cheap.
Just like we didnt have time for a 20 yr old super athlete in rudy gay. Nor did we have time for a raw 19 yr old 7ft er in Deandre jordan. Now we dont have time for a 7'3 guy who will dramatically improve the defense either. Yet, the fantasy of carmello for our marginal players exist. Even better, the almost trade of scola and shane for amare, lmao.
No, I would not. Hill is better. And you know what I think about Hill. I'd rather ship him and Jared to the Clippers for Kaman. I've seen enough of Thabeet. He's gonna knock around the league and make millions simply because he's 7'3" or whatever. He has absolutely no skills. He's slow, has not a single fast twitch fiber in his body and his mind is slow on top of that. Put two broom handles on top of the floor waxer and shuffle it around the low block and that's what you got. If you get the ball down low, just wait a second and he'll move out of the way so you can get the And 1. I'm tired of seeing threads about him. He is, at best, a fourth or fifth bi man on an NBA roster. I'd rather sign Tiny Gallon or Sean Williams for the minimum.
Good god almighty. That was like watching Jackass the Movie, them two clutzes tripping over one another out there.
Yeah, it was ugly, but Thabeet showed some energy in that game. It looked as if they were showcasing him for us.
Showcasing him for the Turkey League maybe. I have more faith in Morey than that. Morey knows he can't play.
Like I mentioned when I bumped this thread,go and look up perkins 1st 2 seasons with limited minutes. In fact, go look at gortat playing 15mins in orlando vs the 25mins he's getting now.
O really? Do you see now where the need for "Thabeet" lies? We needed to develop a paint protesting monster. We needed someone who could not only provide Tha Beet Down on opposing players, but someone who could alter would-be layups. Now that we have acquired one, the task is to develop him, to indoctrinate him into our long defensive culture; and whereas Jordan Hill has never shown an inclination towards good defense, Thabeet has shown a predilection for GREAT defense. What he needs is time, and teaching. Fortunately, we happen to have both.
