If he did. The whole tie in to Passover is thoroughly contrived, but necessary for the early elders to sell the religion.
It seems to me you are defending and dismissing all in the same breath. Dictionary.com define ritual as: The prescribed order of a religious ceremony. Rituals are a problem when the ritual itself becomes more important than what is being celebrated.
So what parts of the bible do you believe, and which parts do you not? How do you know where to draw the line? If Jesus said one thing and you believe it, how do you disbelieve another? Whichever fits your opinion better? Whichever conforms to your values and norms? If the gospels say one thing and you embrace it, how do you choose the part of the gospel to push away?
why?? because you say so?? how can you point at the Bible and say, "this happened...but this probably didn't." what authority do you or i have to do that some 2000 years after the events it purports to record happened? what wisdom do we have that would allow for that?
NO. because he asked ME. That's MY answer. What's yours? I believe what I wish to believe, based upon my understanding of human beings, the nature of churches and those who create them, the writings of liberal Christian authors, and the conclusions of THE JESUS SEMINAR. Others see their beliefs as sacred because THEY didn't dream them up. And they see mine as crap because I did. Well, there you are. Religion is whatever you need it to be.
and i'm wondering how you arrive at the conclusion that the story probably didn't happen... i believe it probably did happen...the story is recorded...i see no reason not to believe that particular account. there's nothing about it that's inherently inconsistent from other accounts of Jesus and his dealings with the Disciples.
Do you think Jesus, being a Jew, never celebrated Passover or any other Jewish rituals or cremonies? I don't see how he couldn't.
I feel like I need a disclaimer it's not personal, but YOUR God is YOUR God, not mine. not everyone who believes Jesus was fantastic believes the gospels are inerrant
He certainly did celebrate passover as a Jew. Whether there was a Last Supper and whether he was crucified on "good Friday" is a whole nuther leap.
ironic that's post number 666 for you! (just kidding!!!) if he was resurrected, that would make him awfully special.
golly gee, you're good is this the method you use in every discussion? I don't care if your logic takes you somewhere else. What next? You're gonna tell me how many angels can dance on a pin? Your vision of Jesus is YOURS. You may share it with a bunch of other people, but it's just an opinion, like mine. Believe whatever you want to about him. passover, no passover, ritual, no ritual you're gonna see what you have been led to see, what you have been trained - no - programmed to see.
thanks for the heads up! I don't like 666 on general and historic priniciples. yeah, it's a throw back to my Christian upbringing. It's not like I never heard any of this stuff Christians argue. I love reading the Bible. I just don't always hear the same voice Christians do. and everyone knows Jerry Falwell is the anti-christ he won over the Pope on American Idols
