I think you're right about trading coaches. In fact, when Riley went to the Heat I think they had to compensate the Knicks with a 1st round pick and some money. I think something similar happened with Larry Brown at some time, but I can't remember the specifics. Also, these both would have been the late 90's, so I'm not sure if the same rules still apply.

And Morey definitely keeps coaching metrics -- I'm pretty sure he has metrics on grocery store cashiers.

I think that's more about compensation to a team for allowing a coach out of his existing contract in order to sign with another team. I get your point, but it's somewhat different than trading a coach and his contract.

Anyway, I like that Morey and his staff are doing their due diligence, even if they end up selecting someone they wanted all along. As Carl Herrera wrote, it's info they can use to pick up an excellent assistant coach or even a future head coach if their first selection doesn't work out. No need to rush the process.

I think they are going run thru all of the coaching candidates then rehire JVG.

Saying they looked all over for coaches but when it came down to it JVG was they best fit.

Thats what I'm hoping for anyway.

JVG would probably decline. It's bad enough he's sort of homer with his yearly Finals predictions the latest was Houston vs Miami, but he does like full sized bigs that play defense. He's too traditional and would probably not have faith in Chuck guarding anybody taller than 6'10". Our current personnel is probably not fitting this overall style of coaching.

If the Rockets really do already have a good idea of who they are already going to bring in, I'm not sure I'd call it a conspiracy as much as I would say that's just the way coaching searches go a lot of times.

I doubt that any team consciously parts ways with their coach with little or no idea of who they want next.

They may not known exactly who they want yet, but I'm guessing they have two or three guys they are targeting seriously.

This is what my gut has been telling me for the past month...

We must hope for another early exit for the Magic; Snatch up Stan Van Gundy and hope he helps lure in the Holy Grail in Dwight Howard.
maybe im just a fool :(

Just a nagging feeling (because I suspect WorldWideWes wants 'all the way in').

Sorry to break the bad news bud.

    http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/os-schmitz-stan-van-gundy-otis-smith-20110427,0,4940636.column

You can pretty much scratch his name off the list, and Dwight Howard... I wouldnt put too much hope into that one either.

After determining no one "gets" his "plan", Morey will coach/couch the team himself next season

Sorry for the double post -- I put this in the other thread about the long list of candidates. I basically agree. Here's my post from the other thread:

It's not exactly a downside, but there is the real possibility that you get enough "impressive" candidates that it comes down to a gut feeling. Now you've, to some extent, superceded the "analysis" that you may have gone through, as suggested by Bimathug, because, at that point, the final decision boils down to intangibles. And those intangibles can't guarantee a championship. No matter how exhaustive the process, it still, largely, ends up being a crap-shoot. I'd say San Antonio's current status testifies to that.

I think, the analogy of how the draft works is appropriate from this standpoint: The Rockets (Les & co.) likely already know who they have designs on, they just want to compare their "pre-favorite" to other competitors to see how it shakes out in reality, not just on paper.

The Morey interview tour post-Adelman departure was a dog and pony show, just like when JVG and Rudy were dismissed. This organization is actually quite adept at it.

Feigan's latest piece seems to indicate there might be some truth to this.

At the same time Carl and others make sense regarding the benefits of going through the process.
