But they can not complete the trade till early Wednesday morning 12 AM to be exact. That gives us plenty of time to hang out at the TC and pass along a message to CD to jump in this deal and help Race Cars get Jackson and The Damn Pier.

I doubt Larry Bird will give Houston anything after the McGrady deal. He is too competative to give us another player. The only way is if there are no other deals that make sense.

Why would the Hawks take Harrington when they offered KMart max money?

I'd take Harrington over Jackson any day of the week. WTF are the Pacers thinking?!

Problem with the article - there probably won't be a luxury tax next year. Further confirmation that GMs believe there won't be a LT is all the MCE contracts being handled out, and the fact CD is looking to use the trade exception. If there was going to be a LT, Les wouldn't let CD use the luxury tax. Also, the Pacers wouldn't have thrown their name into the Shaq sweepstakes.

I sincerely doubt that the Pacers are looking to simply dump a talent such as Harrington. Now sending him and another player to GS in a sign and trade for Dampier, that's another thing.

Harrington is one of the most valuable commodities on the market and cannot be had that easily. Indy won't just give him away. One of their chief goals with Harrington is to get a team to take Croshere's crap contract.

I don't know if the money would match up, but Indy would require us to take Harrington and Croshere for TE and Spoon, or somthing like that b/c Spoon's contract will expire sooner.

Harrington could be our answer for a long time. we need to pull out all stops to get him.

Raven, I think your bashing of CD here is way off base.

We never had a chance at Arroyo. Utah (the free spending Utah- apparently) would have matched any reasonable offer. No other team in the league made an offer for the same reason we didn't.

As for Harington. As it stands, Indy is trading Harrington for Jackson. I don't think we have anything dramatically better to offer in a trade. Certainly TMo or Spoon is less desireable than Jackson. Indy already has a TE (though smaller than ours) so that is not a huge pull. With the obvious exceptions of Yao and Tmac, I don't think Indy has the hots for any of our players.

To say "it seems highly likely we could have gotten both of them"
    is quite a stretch.

I have to agree with Raven, that things are way to quiet from CD's office.

Seems like every team is working deals except for the Rockets. Another week and all the decent role players will be gone.

I'd rather have CD not do anything than to give someone an Adonal Foyle-esque contract.

People are a little too impatient.

It's not the worst thing in the world to sit it out until the dust settles and sign whoever's left over for a cheap and short contract.

The 1st priority will be to lock up McGrady.

After that, if we can't get a decent starter, we should consider trading for Raul Lopez. Utah has now spent a ton of their salary cap money and locked up Arroyo for 4 years. I doubt they'll commit that much to a backup PG. If that's not viable, perhaps take a shot at Marko Jaric who'll be a FA next year.

Most people have no confidence in Tyronn Lue. That's good. I think he'll surprise a lot of people. He may be average, but $1.5 million for average is very cheap.

More information on the ESPN report by realgm.com:

    Harrington In, Jackson Out

According to ESPN’s Ric Bucher, the Hawks have pulled off a major trade that will send Stephen Jackson to the Pacers for Al Harrington.

The deal would be a sign and trade with Jackson, who will reportedly get a 6 year, 44 million dollar deal from Indiana. Jackson showed what he could do statistically last season with the Hawks, showing a great ability to score, especially after the deals that sent Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Theo Ratliff out of town. Jackson also displayed great emotion, heart, and hustle during his season in Atlanta, and proved to be the team’s best defender over the course of the year.

Harrington, the 24 year old small forward, is due 13.3 million over the next two seasons, spending some of the Hawks cap space this offseason. Harrington has usually been a bench player, yet still averaged over 30 minutes per game for the Pacers. In the 15 games as a starter, Harrington averaged 14.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest.

The Pacers have been trying to move Harrington since just before the draft, being rumored to be dealt to a pair of lottery teams for their pick.

Jackson told us after the last home game of the season that he was seeking a 6 year deal for a salary starting just above the mid level exception Jackson Eyes Free Agency and now Jack appears to be getting it from Indiana. Jackson looks real good now for turning down the 3 year, 10 million dollar offer from the Spurs last offseason, cashing in on the 1 year, 1 million dollar playing time gambit with the Hawks.

Jackson averaged an amazing 24 ppg over the last 34 games of the season, all while displaying the same energy and enthusiasm he had shown all year for the Hawks.

Our sources can’t comment until the sign and trade is official, but didn’t deny knowledge of the deal. The Hawks have no official comment until the 14th on any signing or deal, per team policy.

    What’s next for the Hawks?

The Hawks also got word today that the Denver Nuggets have decided to belly up to Kenyon’s Martin’s bar and match the offer the Hawks made Saturday, according to the AJC. With the acquisition of Harrington, signing Martin to an offer sheet would leave the Hawks with little cap room. Considering the Hawks are primed to go after Stromile Swift, the Hawks could pull their max offer off the table in order to attack signing the young Memphis F/C.

I don't know if we still have a shot at him (why should we think ESPN is gospel??), but CD should be burning up the phones trying to get this guy. McGrady wants to play the 2, is dominate as a 2, and Harrington is a perfect 3 to make that happen. Maybe we'll have some more luck!

The sign and trade seems rather peculiar to me.

The Hawks have no rights on Stephen Jackson; they can't offer him 12.5% raises. If Jackson is signing for MLE money, he doesn't get any benefits by going through the Hawks. Since they have capspace, they CAN resign him for greater than the MLE (up to the amount of Harrington's contract), but why would the Pacers basically bid against themselves?

If it's 6 years, 44 million that's a deal starting at 5.87 million, or less than 700K over MLE- rather odd imo.

Looks like we'll probably lose out on Swift, too, if this statement is true. Atlanta can and will offer a bigger deal than we can.

I agree. I just don't understand why the Pacers are giving away Harrington. They can get Jackson anyway but just signing him to the MLE. Then they can at the very least get a draft pick by trading Harrington to someone like the Rockets. I can't beleive someone else out there is offering Jackson more than the MLE. I like his game, but please.

Jackson alone or Jackson + draft pick -hmmmm? tough choice? if this actually happens Larry Bird is an idiot.

From what I understand, Bird promised to trade Harrington this summer, and I guess this is the best he could get for Harrington, and they reduce their salaries by a mil or so. He's been named as a possibility in many trades so far this summer.
