A lot of people think everything is racist. Get over it. And if someone did have a full nazi uniform on, they have all the more right than you do to punch them.
I'm well past it but it's just a fair warning is all, it seems some people just don't understand how to treat others with courtesy. If your wife tells you to stop calling her 'honey' for whatever reason, then you stop. If you continue to do so then you risk insulting and offending her. Now, you could try to talk to her, figure out why that word offends her, and maybe you can convince her that you mean no harm by it...but that would be better than "GET OVER IT!" This is just basic stuff social decency stuff, you practice it every day I bet with people you know and love, the only difference is that some people don't extend that courtesy to others. I think that's fine, you have a right to be rude and insulting, but just don't be surprised when people call you names back, whether that is racist, sexist, bigot or whatever...it goes both ways you know. You say insulting things and people will say them back. A good example of this is the Redskins still having their name despite it offending many people. As for the Nazi-uniform thing and this MAGA hat wearing assault I just find it interesting what kind of assaults our right-leaning members find thread worthy. Maybe the numerous hate crimes perpetuated against minority groups are just so numerous that they are no longer thread worthy though.
Why don't you enlighten us and make a thread if you see a hate crime. I haven't seen any in the news recently other than some fake ones. I am sure the right leaning types would condemn actual violence too. What I find odd is all of the justification being thrown out, versus respecting others' right to an opinion and their right to speak their mind. I see more left types defending political violence. I agree with you about the part about treating others with courtesy by the way. Let's compare the crazy right wing nut job who ran someone over. No one here defended it and said you should expect that if you are demonstrating, but here a person being beat up for simply donning a MAGA hat is being justified by people. I see a disconnect to that courtesy you spoke of and it is very telling.
No, I got that part. So you would not react in an emotional way, and that's good. I wouldn't either, and, I don't wear anything overtly political, because it's just not who I am. I think you are saying that wearing certain themes, in certain situations/places, is bound to cause trouble. In a practical/realistic sense, I might agree with that. But, the problem with this type of thinking is that the places/situations where people react emotionally/get violent seems to be growing, and expanding into every nook and cranny of our public life. Remember the vape store incident? IMO, the guy that wore the MAGA shirt or hat (whatever it was) should be able to go into the vape store (or wherever) and not have the clerk go off on him. That's a reasonable expectation, IMO. You seem to be saying that the guy that wears the MAGA stuff that goes into the vape store should expect the clerk to go off on him. Am I incorrect in this assumption?
What's next? Maybe conservative asshats getting punched for wearing these crazy white hats: These white hats can be worn innocently, without the wearer thinking twice about retribution.
Not the same thing at all and to suggest that is an insult to people who were actually terrorized by the KKK. Your lack of a grasp on reality is telling. And actually if someone wore that, they still deserve the same level of protection under the law granted to you or me. Using violence for political reasons is making one no better than the KKK members who used it to acheive their aims.
Just re-watched Django Unchained recently, I had forgotten how funny the KKK/nightrider posse scene was, b!tching about not being able to see out the eyeholes and the one guy getting pissed because his wife spent all day making them. I'd post it but I'd get banned.
who is criticizing white Americans for that. I never said you support the KKK why are you trotting out that strawman.
Is there a GoFundMe for bail money the Berkeley gentleman? This guy was blatantly supporting the orange guy in public and deserved everything he got. Hopefully he is still concussed.
I feel like you read things so you hear them in your head in a manner of how you want to interpret them. If it makes you happy, continue on with your dilusion.
I support the law. What can I say. I bet none of you have the balls to take a swing at one anyway. I will defend everyone's right to free speech even when I find their views wrong.
