I think 15 is too young and The courts seem to as well I mean seriously . .I could say a guy giving his 17 yr Alcohol is between him and the kid but if the kid gets killed or kill someone while drunk driving wel. . . . or let's say no harm was done. . he was just drunk driving and what ever JJust because someone has parents that are lenient. . .doesn't mean it is ok for that person to do everything 15 is too young . .even if it is two 15 yr olds Rocket River
RR, I don't think most are even seriously arguing that 15 is not too young; the dissatisfaction is with the severity of the punishment on the boy.
When the hell did it become illegial for one high school kid to have sex with another? That just really defies all of the common sense rules. "Hey punk....touch my daughter and I'll have you prosecuted and sent to the booty house"
god i got bjs from 15 year olds when i was seventeen like 20 times! man i miss those days. that was ten years ago! and i got away with it scott free - this dude got hosed.
not sure how serious you were about this post, but i guess i should've elaborated instead of just making fun... i don't support sex between young people like it's no big deal. having said that, i think if our society tried to prosecute young fellas that have had this happen (like a two year age difference - nothing gross) we'd have a whole generation of teenage boys in jail. it happens more and more these days. and while i'm not throwing in the towel and saying "whatever," i do think - IT HAPPENS and there's not much we can do about it. this kind of thing is prevented with a strong family unit and good parenting. and even that isn't fail safe. not sure there is an answer to the problem... we have to let parents be responsible for their kids actions - not go prosecute another child and blame them. (though in cases of rape with teenagers, then that is a totally separate issue) in my day, it was a free for all and lord knows my parents tried their darndest! i hear about a case like this and i just think it's silly...
Well, I spent my first 2 1/2 years of high school at a private boarding school in Massachusetts; I was an anti-social dork with bad BO, but I remember walking in on freshman and sophomore classmates doing and receiving pretty much any kind of gratification that would come to the minds of 14- and 15-year olds in a small town hundreds of miles away from parental supervision for nine months a year in the go-go early '90s. Nobody got pregnant, AIDS, or ended up going to a state school (except for me), so I don't know if there was much of a negative effect. Our infirmary had a basket with free condoms in it, for goodness' sake, so everyone knew what was up. But of course, if it's done in any sort of a public setting, as this was, then there's justification for legal action. But once these kids are biologically ready to do this consensually, I wonder if there's a psychological detriment to criminalizing it. If I were a parent I'd have to think long and hard about pressing charges (I assume that's the procedure) if I knew there was a 10-year prison sentence attached to it. How else, exactly, are these teenagers going to express these urges?

I think everyone should live by the Rocket River code of conduct. Rocket River has the absolute truths of right and wrong and therefore we should all follow his lead. What is good for him is good for everyone. I'd ask you to write all of the rules down but I don't think anyone would understand them.
His sentence is ridiculous. I remember being 15, I sure did have an older boyfriend. I knew what I was doing and if it was right or wrong. Bad judgement on her part, even worse on the courts. 10 yrs and the lifetime label of "sex offender"? That ruins someones life, not some stupid sex tape. She could easily move away from her little town when ever she wants and its over with for her. Having been through a similar situation with my younger sibling recently, I know the anger and embarassment her family must feel, but would I want the little boy to be thrown in jail? 10 days maybe, 10 years definitely not.

Here is an idea RR, not everyone subscribes to your modicum of morality and your constant sanctimonious bull**** gets old. The boy is 17 and the girl was 15. At that age they can make their own decisions as to what they want to do with their bodies. And yes, at that age, if my kids are going to be sexually active, I, as their parent, are going to provide them with whatever protection they need. I'd rather them do what kids are going to do in a environment that is safe. I wonder what you would have thought if **gasps** the 17 year old was BLACK!!! Holy racial uproar Batman!!! Oh please give me a break, is this story for real?! If you are 15, you are going to have sex regardless of what your parents or any “law” will tell you. I had sex when I was 15, and I absolutely believe that the majority of all 15-16 year old girls and boys will have sex before they are considered “adults”. To think that a law against sex at this age will stop it to happen would be extremely silly. It has nothing to do with religion, church or politics, it’s about growing up and being curious about the opposite sex and of course…having sex.
Man, not child. And an ability to control one's urges do not imply a neccessity to do so. No sex parties. That's a public setting, in that there are others in the room, so that would fall under my definition of legally actionable activities. My mother, who was raised as a Catholic, but trained as a pharmacist, gave my older brother an envelope full of condoms. Not because she was proud of him fu*king (even though our patriarchal society gives us men a bit more "credit" for being sexually active than we do women), but because she didn't want him to get AIDS or to get some girl pregnant.
