They traded for him because he works well with Gobert and they need him to stabilize their younger and more immature players. So whether his contract is better or not is irrelevant. He isn't available.

I agree it would depend on what it takes to pry Conley away. I would probably give a little more than most just for his contract and him as a mentor

I would also go after Dewinndie 18mil expiring with Brooklyn. Sign and Trade for Cam that includes Dewinndie in the deal

There can be a happy medium. Everyone knows your take on giving up on our top 4 young players and blowing up the team for mediocre results. Taking a reasonable approach that will allow you to grown into a contender over the next couple of years is what most sophisticated basketball fans believe in. If you can use our middlin players and trade assets to get mid to late 20’s player that can contribute and grow with the team it is the best approach, especially now that we have a decent coach. A 4 year max or near max contract for an aging player like Harden or for a mediocre FVV is just plain stupid. They will spend some money on vets this year either by FA or trade, but they need to keep their flexibility for when a true difference maker becomes available, not force the issue in a year with a strong draft and weak free agency. Next year is a weak draft and a stronger FA class. I’m ok on spending the FA money on 2-3 year signs that leave some room for maneuverability.

We get a $20M expiring contract to bargain with at the deadline.

I'm down to clown, Charlie Brown!

Whatever gets us some vet leadership running the floor i am totally down for - at the right price.
Conley, CP3, give me anybody that can help these kids develop - without giving up our eye teeth or getting wrapped into a long term contract with someone who's best years are behind them...
I'll pass on giving Hard-on a max deal - we dont need our kids to be trained on trolling strip clubs...

imo if u bring in a Conley type player - its to help develop the kids - not to potentially ship out mid season...

I hear that. I just want to make sure we manage our assets better. If KJ and Tate are both worth the equivalent of a late 1st rounder, I want to make sure we get something of value beyond a one-year rental. I like Conley. I do think his game has fallen off a bit and folks aren’t really acknowledging that, but I’ve always liked Conley. And I know we badly need his point guard skills and leadership. KJ, Tate, Christopher and #20 is the equivalent of 3 mid-late first round picks. I want something of real long-term value for a package like that. I’m not sure we even recoup one 1st rounder trading Conley at the deadline. I also think Conley is more of a backup at this point in his career.

We need James Harden! CP3? Nope, he hates us and ownership. Conley? Nope! He is not available and they need him. Fred VanVleet? Nope! He does not have any connection to the franchise, players or coaches. There are too many teams NEED a veteran point guard such as, Orlando, Washington, Clippers, Lakers, Chicago, Toronto and Houston or Philly. If we have to pay Harden for 40 millions for 3 years …..we take it. Provide Harden with Lopez and another SF veteran . Also tell him there is a opportunity we will trade for a Star at the trade deadline. Draft Amen, because it will take a year to get his shot, but he will help us playing DEFENSE, PLAY MAKING AND OFFENSIVE TRANSITION. We can have a winning team but he need Harden to win and help our young players with their BAD HABITS
