There's a difference between what a player wishes for, and he's willing to settle for.

Of course Bosh always wanted the 6yr max. But I'm 99% certain he was going to settle for the 5-yr max, or 5-yr slightly-less-than-max depending on the report. As I said, Chicago, Miami, and New York all dumped their rosters to free up capspace. If they were going for Bosh at 6-yr max, they would've gone the Morey route of simply building up assets.

For example, NY could've given Toronto several of Jordan Hill, Toney Douglas, Wilson Chandler, 1st rounders, and expiring contracts. Miami may have been able to get Raptors attention with this year's 1st rounder, Raptors 1st rounder next year, perhaps Miami's own 2012, and a TPE. Both of which likely matches or betters the Houston offer.

The KEY point is that these teams didn't try to horde assets. They tried to sell them pennies on the dollar. That's simply ludicrous, unless they have some sort of verbal commitments that certain free agents would sign. I refuse to believe that Donnie Walsh, Pat Riley and whoever runs the Bulls are all idiots. They must've thought Bosh would've taken the money.

Meh, nice write up as always. With regards to this point....

I think those teams WOULD be willing to pay Bosh uber-max. The PROBLEM is getting the S&T done.

Miami only has to offer PTE & a pick and right now that doesn't sound like it interests the Raptors.
NY - can offer a S&T with Lee that the Raptors would probably do, but now with Amare, there that's off the board.
Chicago has the ammo for a S&T but does not want to get rid of Noah. And Raptors don't want Deng.
Cleveland - Now the Cavs are in the mix, have the ammo that the Raptors would agree to, but Bosh does not want to go there.

So really, it's about getting all the parties to agree and with each scenario there is one hiccup that is the stumbling block.

Rather than saying these teams don't feel like Bosh is worth the uber-max, it's better to say these teams thought that Bosh would take the regular max. And that their actions leading up to FA would imply that.

I'd imagine their indirect conversations work something like this.

Riley: So Bosh, want to come to Miami to play with Wade?
Bosh: Sure, but how about working out a S&T with Toronto. I want the 6 year max.
Riley: But that's a pain, and we'd have to deal with that prick Colangelo. It's much easier to just sign you straight up. I have tons of ways to promote you along with Wade. You'd make up the rest of the money in other ways. Besides, I can bring Lebron here too. Think about how cool that is.
Bosh: Well, I guess 5 year deal here is still a lot better than Toronto, and South Beach is good. Alright. That works well.
Riley: Cool. (Proceed to dump all their salaries)

    July 1st.

Morey: Bosh, Colangelo and I talked, and we've worked out a nice S&T deal for you. Here's my proposal to you. You can dominate the Chinese market with Yao. You get the same no-state-tax treatment here in Texas. You can basically make $30 more mil than Miami, AND you don't have to ride Wade's jock.
Bosh to Riley: Umm... Let me think about it some more.

This was an excellent post. Good job meh, and I agree with your perspective 100%. I just hope he does the right thing and chooses Houston over the others. He knows its the best option, we know its the best option, hell even Lebron and Wade know its the best option..

All we can do know is just wait and hope.

Let me get this straight. Morey made Bosh a big head so that we could have it? ;)

Carl Herrera, I beat you to it. Hahaha

the bulls can sign bosh and wade to max deals. Bosh is waiting on wade or lebron. If wade or james goes to chicago for 15m vs 17m, bosh is going there.

It's not that simple. Chicago doesnt have enough for 2 FULL Max contracts. Someone has to take less. No one wants to. Bosh wants to get the full 6 years via a S&T. Toronto wants Noah. Bulls don't want to give him up. Bulls offer Deng. Toronto does not want any part of him.

    Problem.

Further, LeBron/Wade/Bosh want assurances that when Rose and Noah's contracts come up, they will be taken care of. Will the Bulls pay all that cash? People are skeptical.

The bulls have 31m committed to salary right now on a 55m cap. The thing about the bulls and their situation is if they get off they're ass and move deng for the lesser of the 25% or find a team with the space and take back a younger player on a cheaper contract, they can have close enough to be considered. They could trade deng for webster and drop their payroll to 24.5m and that will leave 31m for 2 max guys. Right now the bulls want the 2 max guys at 12m vs 15m so they need to open space. Miami can get 2 max guys and fill the roster with mle, lle, and vet minimum players. I don't think those guys will sign before the new cap figures come out anyway.

The last diva we had would have helped us win a championship if he, and others, weren't so injury prone.

At least he tried. And i'm glad he did! We we're a longshot, and Houston has always been a longshot in signing top FA's.
Now Daryl, go get me some Ru-bi-o!

I know it's BSPN and they throw rumors out there every 10 seconds, but I do believe that their writers do have some inside info. Anyway, here's their thoughts on Bosh's chances of landing in various places. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=FreeAgency-100706

Note that Houston has went from non-existence from before FA to ~10% these days, which shows that we've basically put ourselves on the map in terms of Bosh's preference. No, we're not his Plan A or B or perhaps even C, but we've definitely made our presence felt.

Like I said, whether we get Bosh or not, we've definitely made an impact on FA.
