How is disagreeing civilly silencing disagreement? Are you admitting that some politicians can't make a point without advising people to use bullets if ballots don't work? What is brave about extremist rhetoric? I think for many years in this nation political opponents were brave enough to say what they meant, and disagree without calling members of the opposite party the Taliban, or Saddam lovers, or claiming that if elections don't go the way people want they should use violence as a solution. I just find it odd that you seem to be saying unless it's extremist rhetoric possibly advocating violence as a solution to political problems then it isn't genuine and must be fake.
I'm just saying if it isn't real it is fake. “Toning down the rhetoric” is just a euphemism for suppressing dissent. There is now a common theme with the labeling of any outside "anti-government ramblings" as "dangerous" and "extreme" and a characterization of a negative human trait. It's more than a little eerie and strange that our society is systematically being warned by liberals of those who have a swelling suspicion, anger, or lack of trust of the government. “Hey, hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?” I guess if you can't beat them, join them.
Anyways back to the congresswoman for a sec., I heard how her husband said she actually gave him a neck message for 10 min. as he laid his head near her chest at her hospital bed, and it moved me as well hearing how she would play with his wedding ring like before...He believes she recognizes him....she also believed in gun rights/2nd admendment -despite being democrat, (she owned a glock no less) though her husband does not know how her outlook will be now about it... She has not been told anything about the events or others dying obviously as she is still in serious condition... I really am rooting for her though...screw politics, the way the husband described their interaction was so heartfelt . . .
I'm not sure why you believe that it is fake to want toned down rhetoric. I think there are politicians on both sides that should tone it down. If you don't think calling for bullets to be used if ballots don't work is extreme than I have no clue what you think extreme is.
Yes, that was indeed encouraging that she was able to do that. Giffords is a strong supporter of 2nd amendment rights and has long been a believer that the rhetoric needs to be toned down. The e-mail she sent out the night before the shooting was about toning the rhetoric down.
CNN is reporting that Giffords is going to be moved to a Houston hospital Friday. http://www.khou.com/news/local/CNN-...-to-a-Houston-hospital-Friday--114196944.html
Hopefully more than anything she makes a great recovery...I can understand her husband wanting her to discontinue politics and just stay home...That would be my reaction as well as a husband... I think alot of politicians were getting out of hand including Obama...He seemed to have gotten better though in the wake of the tragedy.., hopefully that continues . . .
Welcome to the new enhanced pc language police state. Let's tone it down, people... what a load of stinking crap. CNN Apologizes For Guest Using Term "Crosshairs" <object width="853" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nZ3jEnmaeiM?fs=1&hl=en_US&hd=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nZ3jEnmaeiM?fs=1&hl=en_US&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="853" height="505"></embed></object> CNN's John King: "Before we go to break, I want to make a quick point. We were having a discussion about the Chicago mayoral race. My friend Andy Shaw used the term 'in the crosshairs' in talking about the candidates. We're trying, we're trying to get away from that language. Andy is a good friend, he's covered politics for a long time, but we're trying to get away from that kind of language."
Roxran is trying to keep the discussion from getting derailed, and keeping it on Giffords, which is probably for the best. I think the CNN apology deserves discussion, though. I'd be happy to give my two cents about it if we can take this to another thread...and spare the people here who aren't as opinionated as we are.
Their ratings don't suck. They are used in a different way by a different audience. People who use FOX tend to leave it on for longer periods, while CNN people tend to tune it for shorter timeframes. By most accounts, the CNN audience is much broader, while the FOX audience is much deeper. You also see this in the online ratings, where CNN is - by far - the dominant website when looking at overall reach.
I agree -- using terms like "police state" is a stinking load of crap. Quit fighting lame pc strawmen with tinhat hyperbole. It's nauseating.
