Some more good news on Giffords http://www.latimes.com/news/nationw...ona-shooting-medical-20110113,0,1845333.story
The rhetoric ship has ultimately sailed, I would bet. It's just part of a culture on the skids. Aside from gun control (and an extended clip is an excellent thing to question -- would like to hear ROXRAN's take, seriously), we could look at how we handle obviously mentally ill people. For any of you who've encountered a scary and possibly dangerous person, at work or school, you know there's almost nothing you can do to get them to pursue help/diagnosis/medication.
He talked / wrote about creating a new currency backed by gold and silver and also about language reform. He also had some anti-government positions. The question he asked of Giffords was about the use of language.
so any talk of an extended clip would be part of a slippery slope, or something like that? I'm honestly asking. I guess I know the answer. I am pro gun rights, and just enjoyed visiting a nice gun collection of a family member. Why anybody other than a soldier would need an extended clip is beyond me. Even a police officer should have the chance to duck behind something and change clips. You only need extended if you're on the offensive for an extended period of time, for an extended number of targets. (Or correct me on that!)
slippery slope, yes...btw I hate extended mags. I have a new 4th generation Glock 17 and I keep the factory mags (17 rounds) - I don't buy the ridiculous looking after market 33 round mags because I don't see a need and they look ugly when it extends below the grip...
The funny thing is that he IS apart of a movement that not many americans are aware of. Loughner was a follower of the American Renaissance movement, a group of intellectuals who try to use pseudo-science to justify their very racist views and ideologies. These nut jobs are funded by many conservatives groups and one of the main reasons they are not scrutinized under the public eye is because they are white americans. If this group was any other nationality they would be treated as a terrorist group.
That story was essentially debunked by the very source (the DHS) it was claimed to have come from. Link: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plum-line/2011/01/dhs_has_not_determined_possibl.html
Many people believe that the US is one of the most likely country to implode due to the potential for armed uprising from trained and organized groups. I'm not sure how true that is, but it's a scary thought.
Some more insight into Loughner. This time by a former girlfriend. By going off of other articles/profiles and this one I believe this is the same girlfriend that broke up with him in highschool around 06-07 shortly before he had his incident with alcohol poisoning and dropped out of highschool. from the article: But he emphasizes that DHS has not even concluded in any official way that even the possibility of such ties exists. The official adds that it wouldn't be DHS's place to reach any such conclusion in the first place, since the FBI is leading the investigation.
