Judoka, I think your interpretation of this appears to be spot on.

You can't read. I've stated repeatedly that there is no known connection between this and Palin or the tea party.

I did identify Palin, Tea Party politicians, and politicians from the left such Alan Grayson as contributing to the extremist rhetoric.

I have said that people from both sides who use extremist rhetoric should be shunned and called out.

It is true that only politicians from the right have used specific literal calls for guns as solutions to political problems. When da whopper found an example of a Democrat approaching the same neighborhood suggesting capital punishment shooting for a political opponent I said that was equally as bad.

What you've shown hasn't been from politicians, but random people or people who've used inflammatory rhetoric but not a specific and literal call to use guns and violence if elections don't go their way.

I'm serious that all politicians who call for violence as a solution to political problems should be ostracized and shunned.

You have been unwilling to do that so far, for whatever reason.

You've also been asked to show where I tied Palin or the tea party to the shooting. You have failed to do that but yet tried to make the same claim again.

Stop making sh** up. Either show where I laid any blame for the shooting on Palin or the Tea Party or just stop making up crap.

why don't you ask those on your side to quit lying in their posts and maybe i'll try that for ya.

meanwhile, i can't believe basso is trying to pin the blame of this shooting on hakeem olajuwon. just cause he's black AND muslim doesn't mean he's going to shoot a congresswoman in the back of the head.

Loughner's parents are devastated by what happened.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41014125/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts

[rquoter]PHOENIX, Ariz. — The parents of Jared Loughner, the 22-year-old suspect in the fatal shooting of six people and attempted assassination of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, are "devastated" and "hurting real bad," a neighbor told The Wall Street Journal.

The paper reported that the neighbor, Wayne Smith, broke the news to Randy and Amy Loughner that their son was a suspect in the shootings Saturday.

"She almost passed out right there," Smith told the Journal. "He sat in the road with the tape up and cried."

"They're hurting real bad. They are devastated," he added.

Smith, 70, who was asked by Randy Loughner to bring in their mail Monday, told the Journal that Amy Loughner was having a "nervous breakdown."[/rquoter]

I feel for the Loughner family and this will destroy their family also.

Unfortunately in the same article. If you want to talk about people with no shame looking to exploit this event.

[rquoter]Meanwhile, the leader of Westboro Baptist Church, an anti-gay Kansas-based church best known for picketing the funerals of slain U.S. soldiers and gay-pride gatherings, said its members will picket the funerals of the 9-year-old girl and five others killed in Saturday's attack.

In a video, Fred Phelps says God sent the shooter to avenge the nation's sins.

"Thank God for the violent shooter," Phelps proclaims."We will remind the living that you can still repent and obey. This is ultimatum time with God." [/rquoter]

It seems hard to believe that his parents couldn't have seen some signs that there was something seriously wrong with the kid. Maybe they just didn't know what to look for. Regardless, I do feel bad for them.

So you're problem is that you can't read. I get it. In the post I mentioned politicians from the left that deserved blame and were in the same league. I also mentioned in that post and others that politicians from either side of the political spectrum deserved to be shunned if they advocate violence as a solution.

So far you've been unwilling to do that.

Maybe we can take a quick time-out from the effort to make discourse more civil so we can talk about these guys?

I won't be quick to second-guess the parents. I had a good friend who was very close to my whole family who started having troubles in late high-school/early college. Disruptive in class, said paranoid things, drugs, strange behavior like barreling through a wooden fence. He eventually did something weird enough to see a health professional and was diagnosed as schizophrenic. But, his parents, my parents, me and my older siblings didn't realize the depth of the problem for awhile. A lot of kids run into a rough patch without having anything seriously wrong. They grow out of it and move on. I'd say his parents didn't realize the depth of the problem fast enough.

This is the only update I could find, originally from the LA Times yesterday. I'm sorry if this has already been posted. It's hard to read some of this thread for me, so I've skipped a lot of it.

    http://www.stltoday.com/news/national/article_3557f1f4-2732-56cf-a2d3-110435cd0f98.html

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' condition essentially remained unchanged Monday, doctors at Tucson's University Medical Center said in a Monday news conference.

"No change is good, and we have no change," said Dr. Michael Lemole of the University of Arizona College of Medicine, one of the trauma neurosurgeons who cared for Giffords after Saturday's shooting. "She is still following basic commands, and her CAT scans are showing no progression of swelling. Every day that goes by, we are slightly more optimistic."

Doctors said Giffords, 40, was raising two fingers of her left hand and had even managed to give a thumbs-up.

There's more, including what they've done to rest her brain, and how she tried to remove her breathing tube (a great sign!) The main update point is that she passed the scariest day (day 3) without undue swelling on the brain.

From what I've read, she will probably have some permanent paralysis on her right side (since the injury is in the left lobe), but she may keep a lot of her speaking and cognitive abilities -- also great news.

What a strong woman! Praying for no complications. Huge props to the aide that immediately slowed the bleeding.

That thumbs up made me tear up a little bit.

According to the AP, she is drawing her own breath, but the breathing tube is still in, to support her throat. (I suppose in case her brain is not maintaining muscle tone in her trachea or some such?)

But thank you and great news!
