"Assault" is defined as the attempt to cause or purposely, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury to another; or negligently causing bodily injury to another with a deadly weapon. Whether this fits that description or not is debateable, since intent to cause bodily injury is in question. However, this does seem to fulfill the definition of "simple assault" (the violation of one's personal space or touching in a way the victim deemed inappropriate) so yes, technically the title is correct. I love how since he has a "D" in front of his name it's suddenly OK in a lot of people's minds for someone to grab another person without provocation and restrain them against their will for acting in a nonthreatening manner and asking a simple question. How is this appropriate behavior for an elected official?
??? where did anyone say this was appropriate? Totally inappropriate. As is doing a hit video and protecting your own identity. I for one don't care about dude's affiliation, but I expected a lot more from the thread title. If this is assault, half the high school football coaches I've seen in Texas belong in jail (maybe true.) And I'll stick with the assessment that this won't hurt his reelection chances (if he seeks such.) But yeah, overall, I'm a lot more concerned with politicians screwing over our nation, its integrity, its environment, and its future than I am a politician roughly and inappropriately grabbing a political assassin on a sidewalk. Call me crazy that way.
Wait, you honestly think that there is even a very very small chance that the congressman attempted to cause bodily injury? Really? Of course this isn't appropriate. I don't think he should resign over this incident but he certainly handled it very poorly. I look forward to you pointing out anyone in this thread, or hell any blogger, that says the response is OK.
Of course, Rocket River's just disappointed that Etheridge did it himself, not in the act itsellf. And giddyup's just wondering what the big deal is because it makes Etheridge look bad. If anyone I quoted was being sarcastic or I simply misunderstood what you were saying, I apologize.
I'm saying that this is a non-event. I should not have known it even happened. The kid was rude and unprofessional. Etheridge was testy and unprofessional. It's neither the beginning or ending of anything.
I mentioned it earlier here. OddsOn probably missed it because I did not use the congressman's middle name.
All I know is if this was a republican congressman doing this the left would be screaming for his resignation and I don't see the same response with this one.
Or maybe because I have better things to do with my life than search every thread in the D&D for some obscure reference to a news story I would like to post.....just maybe, or it could be the middle name thing, I will have to get back to you on that one.
Then don't complain about people not being outraged over something because you were busy doing all the better things you have to do with your life, and failed to notice.
