Does this mean that a Black guy would pick a fight if he heard two Hispanics use the word "negro" in a random conversation?

No one reported his. I don't come into this freak show unless someone reports a post, so I have no clue what Sam posted.

Regardless, you can't pull the "he did it first" defense when you have such a long and storied history of ridiculously inflammatory posting. Seriously.

Jeff's post made me think of Escape from New York, and I do think barricading D&D and keeping us in here permanently is an idea with merit.

DPRK: ICBM or Space Launch Vehicle?

This question is not going to be answered with one set of data but the pitch program, as determined by the contrail observed in the DigitalGlobe/Globalsecurity.org image is more consistent with an ICMB trying to maximize its range than a space launch vehicle. The one remaining uncertainty, for me, was DigitalGlobe’s time of imaging. They reported 11:32:00 local time, which seems very round to me. So I thought I’d look at the effects of a 30 second uncertainty in when the image was taken. That is shown in the graph of trajectory above. It’s much shallower than I would have expected if it was trying to maximize the orbit. So I am now favoring the hypothesis that North Korea was testing both the missile and an important part of the guidance program of an ICBM with this test. Since the missile appears to have succeeded in second stage separation and ignition, then this was a highly significant accomplishment for them.

When was the last time NK initiated a war?

The answer will tell you why this is not a big deal to me.

That was when they started what was technically the longest war of the 20th Century, which remains only at temporary truce and without a negotiated peace. So the country has been in a war it started since a couple of years after its creation to the current day - more than 99% of its existence. Not even the USA can match that.

You can argue based on technacalities all you want, which is ironic, since you accussed me of arguing based on the definition of "is" in my earlier post, but they have not shown a pattern of aggression as far as initiating wars are concerned.

So you are honestly not worried about this development because of NK's past history? That's the reason? I'll have to tell that to my uncle, who was a Marine captain at the Chosin Reservoir . One of the lucky ones who fought their way free, despite being vastly outnumbered (8 to 1) and encircled by the PRC Army, and still won't talk about what it was like and what happened to him, 59 years later. Sure, that mad government is just pretending to be insane. They are starving their own people to build these weapons just for kicks. Nothing to worry about.

We're not responsible for what goes on inside NK or any other country for that matter. So the point about the people of NK and your uncle's experience are both irrelevant...with all due respect of course. Like I said this development doesn't concern me. There's nothing wrong with 3rd world countries making technological and scientific progress - especially if they haven't shown a history of aggression. I think we've just been forcefed this idea that NK is trying to take over the world or something by the government in conjunction with the mainstream media, but from what I understand the people of SK are more oppossed to the US military presence in their country than anything NK does and they also don't see much of a difference between themselves and the people of NK.

The reason I told the little bit about my uncle's experience was to make the point that NK's act of war is still remembered. You act as if it was an isolated event that's ancient history. The fact remains, as Ottomaton pointed out, that we are still in a state of war with the country. We are still in a state of war because North Korea is run by a small mad clique armed to the teeth and willing to kill their own people to remain so. We are still in a state of war because North Korea refuses all overtures for peace by the civilized world. Were North Korea to attack the South, which still remains a possibilty, hundreds of thousands of South Koreans would be killed and maimed in short order.

It's nice that you aren't worried, but our government, our military, and the governments of many other countries don't share you sanguine view of the situation.

    This is false.

They dislike the American military, but they express a much greater concern about how threatened they feel by North Korea. And just as West Germans viewed East Germans as their brothers, this fact does not indicate that they are happy with North Korea, any more than West Germans wanted to ditch the US and let the Stasi and the USSR take over West Germany.
