for many Floridian top 1% earner, thanks to tax credits and loopholes, their effective tax rate for Federal income tax is zero; for low income Floridians whose taxable income is > $12,001 or more, w no tax credits loopholes, the FIT is ~> $1,200. willfully ignorant ones, such as @houmanhemmati / ATW and others , are parroting the intellectually dishonest spin, clueless as to what is the effective tax rate.
"Taxable income" means your actual income is that $12k plus the $14k standard deduction (assuming filing singly), so an effective tax rate of ~4-5% assuming you have no other adjustments. I feel like this sentence could mislead people to think that people below the poverty line were getting taxed at a 10% effective rate.
@JuanValdez, it is not misleading at all the 1% have so much tax loophole---significantly reducing their taxable income---that many of have a taxable income of zero tax loopholes such as accelerated depreciation, step-up basis, carried interest deduction, foreign tax credit, etc.
