Every time I hear that term used by the GOP and their supporters over and over and over in a derogatory way it reminds me how deep in bigotry and inequality they really are.
It's like when they changed the meaning of PC. Calling out racism wasn't political correctness. Being racist isn't an Anti-PC stance. It's just racism. PC has to do with being sensitive/overly sensitive and censoring things to supposedly make things more comfortable for everyone. I hate PC. I dislike racism even more. When the GOP uses woke, they use it mean calling out faults for being faults.
I'm with you, we should absolutely all include and respect LBGTQ folks, but we certainly shouldn't consistently encourage children to do so. That would be madness. Other agendas we shouldn't force down children's throats: Say "Please" and "Thank you" Brush your teeth twice a day Don't judge a book by its cover Get 8 hours of sleep a night Stop, drop, and roll Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourselves
I have not yet voted when he was up for election. We were still registered in MN in 2018. Also, there is that pesky little 'write in' column which I use when candidates are assholes and despicable human beings. So, I missed your answer to this - how is "wokeness" being shoved down children's (and adults) throats? Was that split second kiss shoved down their throats?
I’m just shocked with this constant exposure to heterosexual relationships, there are any of teh gayz!!1!!1
The article I posted contained a lot more examples. It's not just a split second kiss. No need to be so angry. There are also more examples in these articles. https://dailycitizen.focusonthefamily.com/the-sad-collapse-and-corruption-of-disneys-woke-world/ https://www.outkick.com/disney-goes-woke-will-no-longer-say-boys-and-girls-within-park/ https://www.wsj.com/articles/disney...nsgender-crt-critical-race-theory-11649082625 From the WSJ article (I realize it might be behind a paywall): (...) The larger problem Disney’s dutiful obeisance to the noisy extremists represents is the way in which those who seek to control our culture are redefining a central element of democratic pluralism—what it means to be an open and tolerant society. I am sure there is no shortage of bigots in this country and elsewhere with malevolent views about minorities, people who would deny basic human rights to people of a certain sexual orientation or those genuinely ambivalent about their gender identity. But most Americans aren’t like that. They are sympathetic to the particular challenges that these people face and they want them to be respected and loved and given opportunities available to everyone. That used to be considered, in the normal use of language, tolerant. But the rules have changed. It’s not enough to be tolerant if you’re a citizen or a corporation: you need to be a participant in a campaign to reorient our culture—to expand the horizons of sexual awareness for every 5-year-old in the country and subscribe to the mandatory proposition that there is no such thing as biological sex. It’s the same with race. Even a decade ago we all knew what bigotry looked like. A white supremacist was someone who believed that race was the defining characteristic of humans and the determinant of their ability, and that white people were inherently superior. (I always found it self-refuting that the white people who articulated this view always seemed to be among the lowest forms of intelligent life on the planet.) But “bigotry” has been redefined. “White supremacy” is imputed to all white people, and only those who own up to it can begin the long journey toward eradicating it. In this now-dominant view, race is now indeed the defining characteristic of humans—the determinant of every individual’s moral condition. So, instead of striving to be a tolerant society, we are now directed to become the very opposite. This intolerant place—where any risk of genuine intellectual diversity, independent thought or the rights of parents to instruct their children—evidently needs coercive policing by institutions wearing Mickey Mouse ears. ---------------- That's how I and many people feel about what is happening with Disney, but not just with Disney. I am more in favour of a color-blind society than I am in favour of "critical race theory". I am in favour of letting children be children, without indoctrinating them one way or another (and yes, that includes religion, from my perspective). I want my children to be tolerant and inclusive, but that doesn't mean my 3 year old son needs to be told by his very woke Kindergarten teacher in Berlin about gender fluidity and men shagging men and what not. I also think it is ridiculous to prohibit employees from addressing children as boys and girls.
I’m pretty sure 3 years aren’t in kindergarten. Also your Disney article maybe a bit premature and alarmist I think it’s ridiculous conservatives have implemented policies that make teaching history harder because the status quo might be offended by slavery or Jim Crow.
Sorry, that's Kindergarten in Germany (where the word is from). He was actually only 2 at the time. I learned after moving to Florida, that the names are different here.
These just seen like empty meaningless platitudes. What does a color blind society look like? A society that has these conditions as we speak: https://www.taxpolicycenter.org/sites/default/files/fiscal-facts/ff_detailed_5alt2.png But just ignore it? Is that what you mean by "color blind"? Not explaining how it happened so some impressionable teenager sees those numbers and think "well that means white people are just 1000% better at making money." Is that what "color-blind" means? And Disney is not allowing employees to use the word "he" and "she"? Wtf? Dude this sounds like the rants of someone who is addicted to YouTube content, not a guy with an advanced degree. Are you trolling!
Woke is just the latest GOP talking point made up threat but that said, I'd rather be WOKE than Racist. You pick a side.
Odd bringing it up in a thread about the US, our public schooling starts several years later. Was your 3 year old regaled with stories of men having sex with men in Germany? Or was that just hyperbole?
I don't think these are the opposites. You can actually be woke and racist. And being anti-woke doesn't mean you are racist.
No but being a DeSantis supporter makes you at least racist tolerant, which pretty much makes you a racist.
