The GOP is trying to be Louie Welch. Instead of saying "Shoot the qu**rs" they are pivoting to "Legislate out the qu**rs" If these people hate gay people so much then perhaps they should stop procreating and having LGBTQ+ children. If there were a test which could determine sexuality in utero then abortion would be a God-given right to these people.
While I agree, what would happen if a 3rd grade teacher answered a student's question that the picture on his desk is his husband because he is gay? More than likely the teacher would be reprimanded, so you can see why the phrasing has stuck.
Nearly 670 anti-LGBTQ bills have been filed since 2018, according to an NBC News analysis of data from the American Civil Liberties Union and LGBTQ advocacy group Freedom for All Americans. https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out...led-2022-far-targeting-trans-people-rcna20418 The gay hate needs to end. Nobody chooses to be gay! Who people choose to love is their own business. Freedom from hate and discrimination would be a start, for the party that touts "Freedom."
There is such an irony in complaining about deception about the law coming from those that support it...
People for political reasons are deciding to over complicate this. It isn't illegal to be gay or to have two fathers or mothers. It shouldn't be illegal for a teacher to not hide that they are gay. There is just a lot of bizarre games being played.
I would say nothing would (and should) happen. Maybe some fools would report the teacher, but I don't read the law like you do. I don't think anything would happen to the teacher based on that law. That's just the framing from the left, by calling it "don't say gay" law. The actual wording of the law doesn't support this interpretation, in my opinion.
And by the way, the person I'm friends with whom I see defending that law publicly (and criticizing Disney for their fake virtue signaling) is gay (a gay conservative - I don't agree with him on everything (e.g., he is very close to Trump and was a very high-ranking official under Trump, while I don't like Trump) but he is a smart guy).
DeSantis's presidential ambitions requires ire from the Left in order to prove his "battle tested" bonafides with the Right. As Bobrek brought up in the other thread, all sexual references should be omitted if the premise is to shield children of any sexuality/mature content. In a slower era, people used to associate scandal with grace under fire, but the media (social/broadcast) settles for this ****. It has worked very well in convincing voters to conflate that with real hard work or genuine accomplishment.
That is the main problem with the law. It is written so vaguely that any parent can SUE if they feel the teacher is violating what they think is the law. While nothing may come of any lawsuit, if I were a gay teacher I would not risk it and actual gay teachers have expressed that concern.
Depends on what your idea of smart is really. He's good at scheming and manipulating people into investing in his business ventures and political desires for power. He's probably good at numbers and finance, as well as real estate and business laws. He's great at finding ways to skirt the law and avoid prosecution. He doesn't appear to know too much about history, geography, or science though. He also has a limited vocabulary and is probably less literate than many 8th graders. It's a well known fact the man doesn't read. Honestly, I think if he took a basic quiz on geography, history, science, vocabulary, and reading he would probably score lower than most 13 year old kids. So, some could say he's not very well rounded in education, and dumb as a rock, but a master of manipulation.
So, what other law makes it a potential law suit if a gay 2nd grade teacher says he has a husband to his class, but a straight 2nd grade teacher has no qualms about saying he has a wife? Also, what existing problem is this law addressing? Nowhere in the Florida curriculum is there a lesson plan to teach K-3 sexuality. Pleased cite how this law would have applied to circumstances in the past.
But this law purposefully has different consequences for heterosexual couples and gay couples. It discriminates. It is bigoted.
