LOL, the population density argument is one of the dumber ones. I already debunked that somewhere else. Too lazy to re-post it.

You are not too bright. Then again, neither is your boy in Florida who believed Trump's lies. If he actually didn't believe them then he is a liar too. He actually licked Trump's boots. As for lazy, well....that's what the radical right likes to call the poor and unemployed.

Masks are mainly extra effective if everyone wore them. Since that's not politically possible, then it's utility should be questioned.

If you're in and out a store within half an hour, the mask still helps. But it's all voodoo numbers unless you buy a fresh N95 all the time.

The whole indoor dining experience is a logistical joke, and one that also gave me omicron.

If you think masks are a total joke, then tell that to people in scrubs.

Be a hero, and free their minds and souls!

It would make all those Twitter pics of maskless adults/masked children worth even more.

    Deepen the narrative!!

very interesting. I'd be interested in seeing if there is a difference in posivitiy rate with and without masking. A lower cases per capita can be misleading if it's coupled with a higher positivity rate. It would just mean that testing was not as easily accessible.

Something else to consider is whether there is a noticeable difference in hospitalization or death rate. There had been studies showing reduced severity of disease when masks are worn possibly due to reduced viral load.

Age-adjusted, there is practically no difference between California and Florida.

Comparing individual states can be misleading IMO. There are too many other variables to consider. Over-interpreting data can be a problem.

For example, you can look at the list of age-adjust covid mortality rate and generalize that masks must work because the top 10 worst states all doesn't have mask mandates while three of the five best states have mask mandates. That's can misleading by trying to draw causation with very limited data.

California also has way more population centers than Florida. In a list of the densest cities in the US, California has 10 out of top 25 and 14 out of top 50. Florida has 1 out of top 25 and 3 out of top 50.

I tried explaining that to him already. He doesn't get the relevance.

    Here's hard facts @AroundTheWorld

In a retrospective cohort study, changes in COVID-19‒related daily mortality rate per million population from February 15 to May 31, 2020 were compared between 27 countries with and 17 countries without face mask mandates in nearly 1 billion (911,446,220 total) people.

Results: Average COVID-19 mortality per million was 288.54 in countries without face mask policies and 48.40 in countries with face mask policies. In no mask countries.

This study's significant results show that face mask mandates were associated with lower COVID-19 deaths rates than the rates in countries without mandates. These findings support the use of face masks to prevent excess COVID-19 deaths and should be advised during airborne disease epidemics.

I already debunked the population density myth elsewhere. It's nonsense.

As I said, it depends on calculation for population density. Usually it is done strictly ratio-oriented. People per square mile.

That doesn't really help concerning spread of Corona.

For instance if there was one city in a state and 100% of the 10 million people lived in that city. The state's population density wouldn't be high even though the one populated area has a high density.

So places that are more spread out might have the same population density as a state that has heavy concentrations of population in a few cities.

So merely referencing population density isn't really indicative of spread potential.

He doesn't get that, just like he refused to admit that masks saved lives. I've given him the proof, but he thinks he debunks it in his own narrow version of numbers, instead of the whole picture.

I just want to say this. DeSantis just seems like the biggest jerk I’ve ever seen. Clearly his supporters like that kind of thing.
