This was another example that the Right doesn't know what it stands for anymore. We don't believe in government regulation and believe private businesses should be able to make choices for the best interests of their staff and customers. When it comes to measures to fight COVID-19 that we don't agree with private businesses shouldn't be able to act in their own interests but government should tell them what to do!
Plain and simple... the only thing important to desantis, abbott, and the rest of the retrumplicans is defending trump's response to COVID-19. Taking active steps (vaccinations, masks, distancing, closures) that slow the growth of the pandemic would show that trump's response was wrong, and so they will stubbornly resists those steps. Americans are getting ill and dying as a result.
I see Trump as more of a mirror on the SCW base. The base distrusts science and vaccines by extension. Trump, the man, even though he had the Rona bad, still got the vaccine ASAP. Trump actions: pro-vax. Trump words: anti-vax. Trump is a great salesman. He is telling the SCWs exactly what they want to hear.
The chaos and contradiction that marked the Trump presidency's response to COVID-19 continues on after he's out of office. It's the elevation of a person over principle.
Doesn't know what you stand for isn't itself bad. But standing for something harmful is bad. I think you shouldn't have pre-conviction and make decisions based on the current situation and with some wisdom on future possible outcomes. The problem is decisions with bad data or worse, with politics, which from my point of view, is largely what is going on with most of these politicians and laws or EO surrounding covid. Delta should be yelling at these governors to pause and change course. Stop with handicapping locals gov and ISD from deciding how they should protect their cities and kids in school. When the CDC changes guidelines, follow them or have solid data for why they shouldn't. What we are seeing is insistent to stick with policies that might make some sense pre-Delta, but JFC, wake the hell up to today's situation. The Arkansas gov regrets signing a law that bans mask mandates. The Republican was asked at a press conference Tuesday why he signed the ban. He replied, “Our cases were at a low point. Everything has changed now, and yes, in hindsight, I wish that had not become law, but it is the law, and the only chance we have is either to amend it or for the courts to say that it has an unconstitutional foundation.”
This guy just keeps on losing he is the worst Governor in the country next Abbott they just don't have a clue playing politic with peoples lives.
Taking this a step further... The mask mandates wouldn't be necessary if we could enforce proof of vaccine status in public and private places that are likely to cause covid transmission. But of course most conservatives flip their **** when that idea is put forth, so we're stuck between two solutions. Running this whole experiment based on the honor system is just asking to prolong the pandemic.
This. Donald Trump still has a very strong level of support. However he is overweight and will be 78-79 years old in 2023-2024. No one has been able to stand next to Donald Trump, get his support and seamlessly not alienate the President and still capitalize like DeSantis. A number of Republicans have tried and failed.... and the "system" of support around Trump may well shift to DeSantis.
Their platform is to polish trumps balls with their tongues. And sadly they can hold around 50% of all elected positions with that platform.
