If only that was all he did.

While some people did move due to COVID response, the biggest issues facing California and NYC residents are housing.

FL had a much higher Covid death rate (111.7) than California (99.9) and NY (83.7). And his hand=picked surgeon general was continuously spouting nonsense, like arguing against vaccines and promoted two debunked treatments for COVID-19: hydroxychloroquine, which the FDA, based on several clinical trials, says increases the risk of “serious heart rhythm problems;” and Ivermectin, an antiparasitic drug that a clinical trial with 1,206 COVID patients found wasn’t effective. Hydroxychloroquine has been linked to 17,000 deaths.

We have been through this many times, but when you look at Covid death rates, you need to adjust for age of the population (because very old people are at 100+ x the risk of dying from Covid than younger people). When you do that, the California/Florida Covid death rates are fairly similar. And Florida didn't have all the other negative effects from China style Covid response.

Do we factor in population density? What about early spread vs later?

Age is by far the most important factor. Nothing else compares. (Obesity would be next.)

I'm terms of pure survival rate, sure. In terms of spread, population density is the top factor. If a higher % of people have it, the more stress it puts on the medical system, which results in higher death rates. My ex-wife was working in the ER at queens hospital in April 2020. What she describes was a bloodbath. In those early stages, those that were hospitalized were substantially more likely to die as we were so unprepared. 50% of hospitalized patients at that time died.

Count me in as somebody that would not have restricted as much as we did. I didn't stay at home (I caught it December 2021 following a cruise and was asymptomatic). The best thing realistically would have been those with co-morbidities and their frequent contacts avoid crowds and those of us young and healthy spread the disease and get immunity. It was never going to happen that way, but it would have been ideal.

It was harder to justify draconian meaures post vaccine rollout, but the research and reporting of it was everywhere for a good year and a half. Folks were disinfecting their groceries with wipes...

We'd probably have a longer shutdown if people didn't start rebelling and vow to vote every incumbent that maintained it out of office.

There were also many who went to Mexico to avoid oppressive shutdowns. They ended up spreading their Freedoms to the local population...

Looks like he pulled the charging plug on his campaign and is now running on Low Power Mode.

I still see the Governor who supported laws restricting what people can read and went after private businesses because they didn’t agree with him politically is still being touted as being for freedom.

Broadcast on Newsmax of all places. Interesting, but just a blip within the larger sound and fury.
