LOL... who to believe, some maga twitter guy, or... reality. Think I will choose reality. btw, this is the second prosecutor desantis has fired for political reasons. The first was Andrew Warren who refused to prosecute under the desantis 15 week abortion ban. A ban that was later determined to be unconstitutional. desantis saw his maga support was dropping faster than his white gogo boots so he fired the popular prosecutor.
I don't think this guy is even the Sheriff of the area where Worrell was elected. It is good politics by DeSantis - but why does the opinion of this Sherriff matter if he isn't the Sherriff of the jurisdiction where Worrell serves? Maybe I am wrong, you life in Florida but I don't think they overlap.
It's good politics by DeSantis - if politics was solely determined by the online memelord weirdo lobby. Sadly for him and his fans and his dumbass donors, it's not. you hate to see it.
@AroundTheWorld When "not doing the job" can simply mean "I disagree with your politics and ideology" which is a very common thing on both sides due to the more divided nature of politics today, wouldn't this give carte blanche for state governments to override all local election by just stating that they aren't doing their jobs?
I disagree. This isn't good politics. The only people who will defend this are far right individuals. It isn't going to do anything for the milk toast white suburban republicans. They simply aren't going to be off putted by a pretty open fascist move. DeSantis' downfall will be pandering to 16 year old 4chan, Twitter junkies doing fascist memes online. The Republicans who go out to vote in the general election don't get the electronic best fascist asthetic ads being spewed out by DeSantis campaign staffers. This kind of stuff panders to the same type of those edgelord terminally online right wingers.
Perhaps desantis should accuse himself as being "soft on crime" and fire himself? The Problem with Ron DeSantis’ Claims About Crime in Florida https://time.com/6294021/ron-desantis-crime-florida-data/
I posted a lot of examples of how she wasn't doing her job. If DeSantis didn't have the legal right to fire her, she can fight it. As far as I know, the other guy's whining didn't lead to courts reinstating him, so...
Honestly - I don't think most people from the larger DeSantis possible voter pool are even going to bother too look into it. They are just going to see a black woman that they will believe it soft on crime has been put in her place by DeSantis. In the state of Florida it may matter because the issue will be covered in my more detail....but it will be the Rudy G effect that existed in NY for a long time.... violating civil rights and basic democracy doesn't matter if it is the right people having their rights violated.
Perhaps your and desantis argument would be more compelling if he provided a comparison of Worrall's conviction rate to her predecessor, or to other prosecutors in Florida. Since posting anecdotal evidence doesn't provide any context and only leads to questions like, what were the reasons they weren't prosecuted (insufficient evidence?). Otherwise, it looks like desantis simply fired a proscutor who happened to be a Democrat and happened to be much more popular in her election that he is.
I admit I don't know anything about State Attorney Worrell or her record. What I'm wondering is how can the governor unilaterally remove an elected official? Is this unique to FL? I can't imagine Gov. Walz in Minnesota unilaterally removing an elected official. There was a case a couple years ago of a country sheriff (an elected position) getting into a drunk driving accident where he was driving 126 MPH. That seems like a fireable offense but the most the governor could do was call for him to resign.
Seems desantis has made a number of movies to increase and protect his power, including a change in the law allowing him to run for president without stepping down as governor (they must have known he had no chance).
