The funny thing is it's not actually just "being a good corporate citizen" - like, companies like casualty insurance companies, etc have a financial interest in mitigating climate risks, as do many, many other companies. All the anti ESG nonsense (which, to be clear is not nearly as big a deal in the "real world" as it is among online right wing morons to whom DeSantis has excluvsively outsourced his entire campaign) - is just more of the same anti-first amendment, pro authoritarian "do as we say, or else!" bullshit from the Orbanist-Americans. What happens when a debate starts by some kids questioning this in class? Will teachers start getting fired for telling the actual truth to students if discussions come up questioning the whitewashed versions of slavery? Will Moms for Liberty and Far Right groups start complaining to the school boards if teachers go into more details of the actual treatment of slaves, or the massacres and treatment of African Americans?

True. I do recall that Hurd did take a few more moderate positions while in congress. I seem to recall he was early to criticize and oppose trump's boondoggle wall for example. He also criticized trump's Muslim ban. And spoke up on trump's disinformation re: putin. I was hoping Hurd would turn his attention to a state-wide campaign for senate or governor.
