if the clock is running and the offense commits a penalty like delay of game, false start, or holding, the ball is spotted after the penalty and the clock starts up again. what is to keep a team with a lead in the 4th quarter from simply running once to get the clock started and then taking penalty after penalty after penalty until the entire clock is run out? it seems it would be perfectly legal. This is what I've never understood. It happened to Texas in the B12 championship game once (I don't think Colorado did it on purpose) and I never figured out why the clock keeps starting again. If you were trying to run the clock out with like 5 or 6 minutes to go, just sit there and take Delay-of-Games the rest of the game. It makes no sense.
Alas, it's the silliest thing you never heard. If you're going to criticize, please read the post accurately. I didn't care if Mack did hang 70. I was very annoyed by the idea of condescension masquerading as class. I mean, what precisely happened that was classy? Nobody in this thread has remotely suggested any reason to think that we somehow payed respect to Tulane by not scoring that touchdown. Did it make their performance better? Did it make them feel better (gee guys! we really stuffed them on that last drive! THat 3rd string QB must be really dumb!)? Did it make them think that we thought them a worth opponent? If they believe any of that, then they'd have trouble qualifying academically at FSU. It was a meaningless gesture, unless you really think it's gratifying for Tulane's alumni to be able to look at the score 10 years later, and think "gosh darn... I'm glad they didn't score 70!" If something is "classy," then it has to be more than an empty gesture. It has to mean something. This was pointless over-politeness. Yes ma'am, please, thank you, and don't score 70 no matter what. The only remotely good argument I've heard is that it avoided the possibility of injury by dragging out the clock. That makes some sense, but not that much - it's not like we had anyone on the field we would miss that much. And I'd bet a lot that they'd have personally taken the risk to score.
We're a week away from our first Big 12 game, and haven is complaining about something that has absolutely no bearing on the rest of our season. We should be discussing the following topics: 1. Having a LB spy Ell Roberson during the whole game next week. 2. An effective run defense equipped to stop Darren Sproles. 3. Finding 2nd and 3rd passing options when Roy is covered. 4. Using David Thomas and Bo Scaife effectively. 5. Attack KSU secondary with vertical passing to BJ, Sloan, and Jeffery. 6. Opening up some holes for Selvin and Cedric 7. Being loud as hell, and make a true home-field advantage for the Horns. 8. Keeping Hickson and Buhl in check. 9. Kicking game. 10. Winning the battle of turnovers
You guys were sober enough to remember the end of the game? I have had root canals that were less painful than the most of the second half. I could care less about his manners when he is up by 45 points. Mack will have class the day he again finds a way to beat stoopy's ass!!
What, we need to hurry up and plan strategy so that they don't surprise us : ? Absolutely nothing we do has any bearing on the reste of our season! regardless... I really don't like spying, generally. Roberson is effective enough in the pocket to be able to pick us apart. That man is just wasted all to often when he commits to spy. Well, taking our LB's off the line so as to let them hit right behind the linemen may be effective. Of course, it won't be done. The mugging shall never end . Actually, I think there's a problem in not passing to Roy enough at times. Every so often, Mock seems to decide, "ok, we need to get the other guys involved to... and simply won't pass to Roy. Roy being the 2nd option is ok every now and then. Passing into coverage when Roy has beat man cover is just plai nstupid. And Mock's done it several times this year. All hail to the TE seam route. May it be used more often Jeffery? Why? I'd prefer to use verticle passing with Roy, BJ, Sloan, and both TE's and maybe Selvin Young. I think he's the 7th best option on vertical routes. IOW, not going to get to him... We can only hope that the new blockign scheme is taking effect... [quote7. Being loud as hell, and make a true home-field advantage for the Horns.[/quote] Does this mean we can kick the alumni out of their seats at the 50? UT really does screw its' studetn body. Kicking is fine. Scholarship punter might be nice... DON'T DROP THE DAMNED BALL! How about #11: Can we effectively utilize V-Young as the ridiculously dangerous option he is without going to a true 2 QB system? EDIT: Hold on, let's start another thread.
