Yep. I have a few friends in Brazil. They absolutely hate him. They want him out and would even try to do it by force if they feel like they could. So many people there are suffering. Their spirits are broken.

My wife was a fan of him through the years but lost all respect when he finally became President and was found to be paying off politicians to vote for his social programs. Even if those programs were good for the average Brazilian.

Lula also cozied up pretty hard to communist countries and it’s fair to say many in his cabinet hated the United States.

But we’d take Lula in a heartbeat if it meant Bolsonaro was gone. Bolsonaro is evil, horrific scum.

Apparently they still had plenty to lose. It was wrong of you guys to back authoritarian leaders back then and it ages even worse.

Brazil Elects Lula, a Leftist Former Leader, in a Rebuke of Bolsonaro
    https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/10/30/world/brazil-presidential-election

BRASÍLIA — Voters in Brazil on Sunday ousted President Jair Bolsonaro after just one term and elected the leftist former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to replace him, election officials said, a rebuke to Mr. Bolsonaro’s far-right movement and his divisive four years in office.

The victory completes a stunning political revival for Mr. da Silva — from the presidency to prison and back — that had once seemed unthinkable.

It also ends Mr. Bolsonaro’s turbulent time as the region’s most powerful leader. For years, he attracted global attention for policies that accelerated the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and exacerbated the pandemic, which left nearly 700,000 dead in Brazil, while also becoming a major international figure of the far right for his brash attacks on the left, the media and Brazil’s democratic institutions.

More recently, his efforts to undermine Brazil’s election system drew particular concern at home and abroad, as well as worldwide attention to Sunday’s vote as an important test for one of the world’s largest democracies.

Without evidence, the president has criticized the nation’s electronic voting machines as rife with fraud and suggested he might not accept a loss, much like former President Donald J. Trump. Many of his supporters vowed to take to the streets at his command.

Thanks to the Repuggies who hate government ignorantly as they are brainwashed to do by their idols who love them some tax breaks. Repuggoe are happy when government systems which they deliberately underfund do poorly. Of course like Blosanoro they love to only accept elections when they win.

He went to prison for corruption and kickbacks. When's the last time an American politicians on the national level was ever convicted for corruption nor kickbacks?

The response from the right wing regarding an attacker possibly motivated by conspiracy theories and demonization of the left is to put out more conspiracy theories and demonization of the left.

This has been backed on this website by @Commodore @AroundTheWorld @basso and others.

Brazil has a national election with Federal standards for President. They don't have things like different states with different standards nor an Electoral College. Since you admire there system would you agree then that we should have a the same system to get Presidential votes and results out faster?

Seems like Brazil dodged a bullet from trending into other "strongman democracies" in Turkey or Hungary.

They are so reliant on exporting resources that will spike in the near term that it's too tempting to overspend and flood unsustainable welfare services to bribe voters (Venezuela). Aside from the corruption charges, I guess the silver lining is that the president is old af and would presumably look after his historical legacy.

I wish them a steady hand. The next 5-10 years will shake big winners and losers around the world.
