It is another victory for these class warriors.. They are on a roll after food stamp cuts and so far resisting increases in the minimum wage it looks like they are succeeding in cutting off unemployment benefits for 1.3 million workers who have been out of work for over a year. These benefits are only available in those parts of the county with higher than average unemployment.

The cuts would take place 12/28/13.

    Merry Xmas.

Endless unemployment benefits would result in permanently high levels of unemployment and no incentive to get a job. You have to draw the line somewhere. Giving people a year is already incredibly generous -- actually it's ridiculous. Our nation does not have limitless resources and borrowing from our citizens and other countries to direct money towards people who have been unemployed for an extended period of time is just a horrible idea. Bad return on investment, moral hazard, and creating disincentives to find work are all ways to describe this program. We must work to wean people off of government assistance -- these programs are the chief reason why we have the record budget deficits that we currently have. Abuse of these programs is rampant.

Providing incentives to stay unemployed is absurd, and taxing productive labor and capital to pay for it is even more absurd.
