Congrats to Kliff on breaking the record. He's one tough SOB. I think he can be an NFL QB. Speaking of Goalposts, I was able to be at the 1st A&M Goalpost game and that was an epic game, not as great as being @ the Texans/ Cowboys game but pretty close. On another note---- Nice handle Matador--- BTW, ever listen to the radio? *wink* *wink* "Long live the Ma-ta-doooorrrrs!!!!!!" Rob
Well I don't live in Lubbock anymore, but I used to listen to 1340 occasionally for sports talk. 88.1 also had a decent once a week sports talk that I used to like mainly geared toward TTU sports. Wreck ' em!
I love how most of the UT fans, not including Smokey, feel like this is the time to talk about how Major is better than Kliff. Geez, settle down. No one said Kliff was better. Must UT fans be so bitter that their deity's record is broken?
Include me in that kidrock8...I'm a huge UT fan and think that Kliff deserves props. Refman, you have no right to talk about classy fans. Like your fans who cut the Horns off the Memorial Stadium's field, all while acting like Kyle Field is a throne that shouldn't be touched. My ex-girlfriend's parents, 50-somethings, were screamed at by students while walking back to their car after the 1995 game and had bottles thrown at them...that's real class I guess.
This is such bullsh!t..... 1. Yes, Applewhite was the better QB hands down. I will be the first to admit that. 2. Records are made to be broken. It doesnt matter how many freaking attempts he has or whatever, the dude COMPLETES his passes even if they are between 5 - 10 yards. 3. He doesnt have a strong arm like Major (something I admitted last weekend while watching the Tech/Ole Miss game), but the dude doesnt make a lot of stupid mistakes either. Look at his Tuchdown to interception ratio and you will see that. 4. About the A&M games. How many times do we have to go over this?!?! It was a small group of Tech students who took the whole thing too far. By no means does one incident make us "classless". You want to talk about classless? My dad went to the UT vs. A&M game a few years back. A guy (Texas Longhorn alum) was laying unconcious in the stands. Instead of helping, a boneheaded brainwashed Aggie says: "Just leave him there..... he's a Longhorn". How classy is that?!?!?!?!?? Oh yeah, and Earl Campbell is a legend.
A group of students took down the goalpost and shoved it into the crowd. Oh that's just the same as a radom jackass or two throwing bottles (which BTW isn't acceptable at A&M if you'd spent any time there you'd know that). The goalpost incident was WAY more than 2 or 3 students. All of that when the sabre weilding Corps of Cadets stood silent. If A&M were as classless as you think, those cadets would have unsheathed those sabres and acted machismo. I don't expect you to get the difference.
From every story I've heard from both Aggies and Longhorns at that game and what I saw on television, it wasn't just a couple of fans...it was fans and cadets. The cadets were beating up anyone running onto the field, and I saw your cheerleaders trying to tackle Mike Adams who was waving a UT flag. Do you not remember the SMU cheerleader incidnet or the Rice band incident?
Now you're changing incidents on me. If you are referring to when the UT students chrged the field in 1995 we can talk about that. Check this out...THEY WERE TOLD NOT TO COME ONTO THE FIELD. Did they think the officials at the University were kidding? The UT student who I saw take a swing at a College Station cop wound up handcuffed to the goalpost and probably found out later that day that it wasn't funny. Bottom line: they were warned NOT to go onto the field and they disregarded the warning. The field is a memorial to the A&M students who have died in the line of military service. They were told that and disrespected the wishes of those who operate the property. Whatever happened to them...they deserved...PERIOD.
If you want to call noting when somebody has gotten unduly personal whining go ahead. Glad it makes you feel better.
i love that guy! i also love J.J. Joe...one of the smartest QB 's I've ever had the privilege of watching.
Even though JJ Joe never racked up impressive stats, I will say that he worried me whenever A&M played Baylor. Joe was the type of QB who could hurt you if you took him too lightly.
I'm not changing incidents, I'm changing stories from the same incident. You do not deserve to be beat up if you are warned about not going on the field, but do anyway. You deserve to have something happen to you, but not that. Have you ever done something that you were told not to? You should get the living **** beat out of you for that, I guess. It's funny that Aggies get all riled up about their Memorial Field, but don't find anything wrong when they cut the Horns off at UT's Memorial Stadium. A little hypocritical, huh. Maybe they should get the **** beat out of them.
Who got unduly personal? I'm just calling a spade a spade. Aggies are no better than Tech fans. I didn't say all Aggies were classless did I? Did I call you, personally, classless?
I saw a play once I was sooooo impressed with from J. J.... we were playing GA Tech my freshman year...it was a tight game and we needed a drive down field to keep our hopes of winning alive...Joe looks down field, and every receiver is covered...tight...and he sees defensive holding on one of the DB's...he throws at the feet of the player being held...ref looks that way, sees the hold and throws the flag, keeping the drive alive...we ended up winning, if i remember right...amazing....those of us in the stands who knew football well enough all gave a collective "wow." i didn't figure the media would pick up on it...but when he graduated, the chronicle did a nice story on him...they talked about how smart he was and how he just didn't have the physical tools for the NFL...there were some NFL scouts saying he had the mind of a veteran NFL QB... he ended up with Andersen Consulting, I think...he would come back to Baylor for Andersen recruiting...he was one of the nicest guys...I didn't know him personally, but had friends that did...and he was all smiles and very friendly on campus. His GPA as a finance major was around 3.7 if I remember right. Just a classy guy...and a winner. I had a J.J. for Heisman shirt...of course it was a joke, but it was a testament to how much the student body loved that guy.
Since I was at A&M at the time I can tell you that most students were embarrassed by the actions of those individuals. That type of behavior is not condoned by the VAST majority of the student body at Texas A&M. Try being an A&M student who walks on the grass at the MSC. You WILL be bumrushed. When I was a sophomore I was walking on campus by the MSC and we saw another student walking on the grass (which is a memorial). We asked him to please get off the grass. Then we yelled at him to get off the grass...then he gave us the finger. So I tackled him and my buddies carried him off the grass and pointed to the signage. That when we told him to kindly stay off the f***ing grass. Would I do the same thing now that I'm a decade older? Probably not. But I sure would continue screaming at him until he got off the grass. I have no respect for somebody who does not respect memorials to dead war heroes, be they Aggies, Longhorns or otherwise.
