I doubt he'll do anything violent. He sounds like a wormy sob who will continue to use his position passive aggressively even after a reprimand.

Just saying that I'm not seeing any rewards for staying. You've worked enough to show to other retail employers that you have experience.

didn't want to make another thread, so here's my story.

i'm having a bit of trouble as well. i don't get along with one of my co-workers. i know that it's nearly impossible for an average person with average social skills to get along with everybody. fine. but this guy is going to write a check his a$$ can't cash. he's from new zealand. i've never had problems with other kiwis but this one pi$$es me off like no other. he tells me today, i hate all americans. what? i was caught off guard. it was in front of many of our co-workers. straight up disrespect. had it been in h-town, and i felt that someone had disrespected me that bad, oh *****, it's on, but...

i live in japan. in japan, violence is looked down upon, at least more than in america. i've already been arrested for fighting. although my case was dropped, i was told that if i got into another fight, i'd be punished to the extent of the law. i have a daughter, and my wife works in the same office.

i've talked about this to a good friend of mine, who is the sales manager of New Balance Japan. he told me to confront him. or ignore it for the fact that he's a mosquito when i look at the big picture.

so, my dilemma is this. do i break his nose or am i too old (31) to be fighting and getting fired in order to save some dignity? i'm furious right now.

i think being a p***y and not wanting to get fired over a prick is a different thing. i'd fight anyone if i knew i wasn't going to get arrested. hell, i'd take a bat and break his knees if i knew i wasn't going to get arrested or fired. i miss the days when we could fight, and that'd be that. now, it's getting arrested, losing your job, or getting sued. what are you gonna do?

Who cares if he says he doesn't like Americans. It's just that guy's opinion. But in all honesty, the more you travel outside of the States, the more you realize how bad a reputation America has over these past few years. Just shake it off and go to work.

it's not necessary him just not liking americans. it's that i was the ONLY american in the room. so it was directed at me. in front of my co-workers.

i've grown to dislike canadians the most. but NZ, OZ have some kind of inferiority complex towards americans. why?

Tell him to suck a **** if he comes after you personally or just leave it - you don't have to be friends with everybody. The workplace is for work. Do your job. If you need something from him, tell him properly and, if he doesn't comply or does something inappropriate, report him.

Joke about it and laugh him off as a little turd. If you like the drama, twist his insecurities to the point where he wants to take the first punch.

"There's a dog in the New Zealand section" = quite possibly the funniest line ever uttered.

Well I contacted HR, so there is no turning back. I have sent them all the info and I will just wait and see. If the other job offers me more money, I will leave, and I will probably tell HR it's because I don't feel comfortable.

Something like Aww too bad. I thought New Zealanders loved Americans but not as much as they do their sheep. wink wink

Silly stuff where you get your kicks at his expense but you act like you're his best friend in front of co-workers. It doesn't even have to be clever. Volume over quality and you'll annoy the **** out of him.

You have a stereotype to uphold.

Probably because of Americans like you. You are 31 and acting like a 14 year old. You seriously want to fight someone because they "don't like Americans"? You need to grow up.

Come on the very fact that this dumbass Kiwi said "I hate all Americans" obviously KNOWING that there was an American in the room, clearly shows he is wanting to start some crap.

Probably wants his job or territory...be stronger than him......Get some witty comebacks.....make him look like fool from a pissant country that he is...

Shoving you, changed the game. He CAN NOT put his hands on you and once he did then it put him in a BAD spot. Your excuses where legit and if he had a problem with your attendance then a sit down meeting should have been the way to handle it. Once it got physical, he turned it into something personal. Unless, you did anything back you shouldn't be worried. He won't comfront you, if he does anything stupid like that then call the cops and end that crap asap.
