I think a high second round pick has value. It's hard to predict which player is going to pan out in the long run. Some lottery picks are busts, and some second rounders become good NBA players. I certainly don't think a high second round pick is worthless. Carl Landry went in the second round.
i won't do it, but i'm really tempted to start a thread here in the GARM titled: [confirmed]I'm not wearing any pants!
moe, you magnificent b*stard....this has become the most entertaining page on the internet. just ahead of "dramatic hamster."
Err, well DM is indeed the General Manager. As general manager, he's the one in charge of trading players and hiring people for the organization. Don't you think that also means he has significant power in the organization? Whoever heard of a GM with 0 influence in the franchise? Secondly we aren't talking about benching a major cog in the roster. Ish and JT are both end-of-bench players, why would benching one for the other be such a big deal? Ideally both of them won't even get PT in the first place, so I don't how JT playing instead of Ish translates to "OMG! DM makes the coaching decisions in this team". And even if DM did request that JT get playing time, so what? JT has asked to be moved long ago, and its only natural you want the dude to be showcased to raise his value up. Again, neither of these guys are a significant part of the rotation so I'm pretty sure RA didn't even bat an eyelash. Finally, why are you overreacting so much about which bench dude gets playing time? Does JT getting some playing time deserve this kind of reaction? I mean seriously, will Kyle Lowry go "Uh oh, DM demanded JT gets some PT over Ish. My god, the balance of power in this franchise has shifted dramatically! RA is a lame duck now!"? How the hell did you even come up with this conclusion?
Also, if this helps to increase the value of our NY draft considerations by getting Melo to NJ instead of NY, then this is also in the interest of the coach, and the whole team. OP is being too dramatic on this one.
I'm sure Morey asked Rick to put JT in the rotation for a few games but I don't think it was neccesarily to showcase him, maybe to see what kind of progression he was at. I think if JT had played well in those last few games. Jared Jeffries gets a buyout or Ish gets cut.
We could have gotten a 2nd-rounder for JT, if we had done it ahead of time. We were going to make such a trade when we were going to sign Dampier. Unless all that was hogwash, and nobody would have given us a 2nd for him.
It could just as simply be RA taking a look at JT again in game situation to decide whether he is worth more in rockets uniform than T Williams ...
