Oh wait, your going to the casino? Playing cards? Sports book? Stop going to the casino. Hang out in other places, but cheaper places since now you're on a budget. Good luck again.
Look, I love going to Las Vegas and I gamble on a fairly regular basis, but this advice is stupid. Comparing a lifestyle choice to an addiction shows that you really have no clue. IF HE COULD GAMBLE IN MODERATION THERE WOULD BE NO PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Yeah, I understand that...but Ive also gambled for 10 years and Im definitely in the green, specially when you throw poker into the mix. The key is to know when to walk away when you are ahead...and to set a limit that you are willing to lose and not go beyond that.
Yeah, I know, i was just throwing that in for a little chuckle...I guess I just amused myself, but yeah, I wouldnt ever recommend fishing for your money back. That is how the casinos make their money.
Sometimes, it would help to better decipher if people are actually being serious. Fact of the matter is that there are groups out there for addiction problems and the OP is too embarrassed to go. Therefore, there really arent many viable options. Change would have to occur from within. And honestly, just telling him to stop gambling does nothing. There would have to be a change in gambling habits to eventually reach the goal of "not gambling your life away".
After you posted twice in a row, the odds were 16-1 that you would hit the trifecta of three posts in a row. Rarely done, and it is a big payoff when it happens. I was betting on the trifecta! Thanks for winning me some money!
wouldn't you rather be one of "those people" that seem to have found a solution to their problem instead of an irresponsible and lying beggar? btw... you may want to change your sig. jus sayin'. edit: reading this seems like name calling and i don't intend to do that, but from your original post... those few things kind of spring to mind.
This is funny, but complete nonsense. kyakko needs to stay away as far as possible from any of these places, as he will otherwise end up eating steaks until he chokes.
no offense taken. there's the knowing and there's the will power part. i know what everyone's saying though, that's why i going to call GA this weekend and check it out. as for my sig, i mean that ironically as reminder to "question the status quo". "status quo" has negative cogitation and it's meant as a "why would anyone admit to that?" placard. even if you read it wrong... you read it right?
I know how you feel. But my money blowing doesn't go over ~$600 a trip. Good luck on overcoming your problem.
What helps me sometimes is when ever I get the urge to go or think about going to a casino, I just tell myslef how good it'll feel if I rather go home and get some sleep or go play a videogame. Then I realized and come to my senses that I actually enjoy sleeping and playing a videogame more than gambling. But sometimes I just do not think and go for it anyway.
Kyakko, just curious...do you ever go into gambling with a limit? Or, do you play, lose money, then play more to win it back? Just trying to get some info on your mentality and your thought process...knowing more details regarding your gambling habits could give more insight on how to best approach and solve this problem.
the last time i went i brought 200 dollars with a limit intention. i left my atm at home (i don't have credit cards). at one point i was up 800 dollars, but eventually lost that and felt i had to win it back... so i drove home and got my card. drove back to the casino, maxed out my atm limit (twice, once before 12am and one after) and proceeded to use cash purchase withdraws. next thing i know, it's 8am and i'm down nearly 4K.
Yeah, looks to be a pretty serious thing here. Many of the "steps" to being a responsible gambler are broken here. 1) You start with an amount limit. This should be a dollar amount that you are okay with losing, an amount that will not have much of an impact on your financial situation at all. For instance, you stated 200 dollars. Im guessing that if you lost that 200 and kept it at that, no problems would arise. When I lose my limit amount, I just chalk it up to "cost of entertainment". If I lose that money, I understand that its not going to affect any other financial obligations. This thought process allows me to enjoy gambling more. I go into it knowing that I can lose an X amount of dollars and be okay. That gives me a relaxed mindset which definitely changes how you gamble. If I play nervous or scared, then chances are that not only will I not be successful in the gambling, but I will also not be having a good time at all. Therefore, make sure you are okay with the limit you are setting for yourself. And when you lose it, consider it the cost of having a good time. You have to have that perspective or the whole situation becomes a nightmare. 2) What happens when you are up? Look at it this way. If I sit at a table with 100 dollars...and work it up to 300...there is a pretty good chance that you cant do much better than that. Thats a huge percentage gain...and in a game like black jack or craps, you have to stop when youre ahead. The odds are heavily in favor of falling back to the casino. You stop, take a breather, walk around a little bit, grab a drink, etc. Then, you can sit down for another go around with 100 bucks. So, when you are winning, you have to be aware about how much you started with and what your current winnings are. After a certain percentage increase, get out. I know you want to go for the homerun, but winning here and there adds up. Heck, Ive started with 200 and walked out when I hit 215. 15 bucks is still 15 bucks. 3) When you lose your winnings, there is no need to fight to get it back. It wasnt your money in the first place. If you are going to lose, it is best to lose after you have won the casinos money. So, when you lost that 800 dollars, why fight to get it back? I truly understand the disappointment, but you have to also look at it from the perspective that you were playing with the houses money. You really should try to look at it from that angle. Its upsetting to lose profits, but at the same time, you are in no worse of a position than when you started. Finally, it really just comes down to discipline. When you lose your "limit", call it a night and play another day. Chasing after a goal in gambling is the worst thing you can do because you play on tilt and youre on edge, all the emotions that run through you prevent you from thinking clearly and from having an enjoyable experience. You have to really focus on not allowing the loss of your "limit" to overwhelm your emotions and make you want to get it back. I know its hard and I cant really put myself in your shoes, but try to look at things from a different perspective and that will hopefully change some of your gaming habits. Good luck with GA.
Worked as a VIP dealer before, I know that Casino here (the Great White North) has a voluntarily self-banned list you can sign up for. You can choose how long you ban yourself (1yr, 2 yrs, or 3 yrs)from entering the casino and any other casino under the same company. I hope the casino you go to have similar service. Finally, remember folks.... gambling is a form of entertainment, like going to a movie, you won't get your money back. Gambling is not a full time job that .....staying (working) on BJ table (as BJ Specialist) 10 hrs a day expecting winning $$$ (paycheck).
I was going to be a dick and say something like you can't win if you don't play, but I feel bad for you. If you have to gamble, try the pursuits with higher odds of success like sports wagering, where you can prepare and study the odds. Or try the stock market. You get the rush and there are slightly better odds than playing blackjack.
I listen to this one psychologist on the radio. He always says that we need to feel our lives with possitives so that we wont have time for the negatives. So all you gotta do is find a inexpensive hobby to get your mind off of gambling. It might sound like cliche but I think exercise is the best way of spending your free time.
