I tried reading this about 6 months ago, but it was too long and I just didn't have the time. Now that I'm on the cusp of buying a new car, I'm gonna have to take the time.
Edmunds is my favorite car site, and I have read that article. It is very good and should be required reading for anyone that is thinking about buying a car.
I think I posted that about a year ago. You are right, it should be required reading for anyone about to buy a car.
This article must have been somewhat outdated. He was talking about 99 models. From the knowledge that I have, car dealerships have a completely different approach to selling in the last 4 years. Ridiculous incentives and financing options have been the craze and dealers are focusing more on quantity selling, rather than on profit margin.
It does depend on what car you are buying. You will see Domestics high on incentives and rebates and moving cars in quantity except for higher end models. Toyota has become the same way but you will hardly see that from Honda though. Honda doesn't offer many rebates or incentives that often. Their philosophy is that they have a better product and don't need to resort to rebates and incentives. The few times they will do it though are on models that just won't move like the Civic SI. Article is good though. The more information the better
