The SEC is important because most of the programs are storied, most of the fans are diehards, most of the stadiums are huge, most of the games are packed, and most of the focus is on football. That's what sets it apart. No other conference can really hang its hat on anything in football (basketball is another story). I look for Ohio State to transcend the Big 10 here pretty soon, much like a good basketball program (Kentucky for example) can do.
