I've never heard anything about that. Toni Morrison - nobel prize winning author: http://nobelprize.org/literature/laureates/1993/morrison-bio.html maybe you're confusing her with: chick who married a gay guy and wrote a book about it: http://www2.oprah.com/tows/booksseen/200410/tows_book_20041027_cgrever.jhtml
balla I hear ya. But somehow I don't take you for being one of the cool aid drinkers. Know what I mean. And unfortunately the zealots are running the hen house these days.
man that's so infuriating. That people will not vote for someone capable of leading who has a backbone and a brain simply because they don't like what he does personally. These koolaid drinkers would vote for Gomer Pyle before they vote for someone who -God forbid- does what every other human being does and mess up once in a while. They'll overlook the idiot's drug and alcohol problems, his inability to sound coherent, and the 50 million strings that control his every action.
No i'm pretty sure it was her. I'm too lazy to google it right now, but I remember seeing a story on her Oprah appearance.
hotballa: I doubt what Giuliani does in his personal life will be that big of an issue. There are plenty of confirmed adulterers in the GOP. The base doesn't care about that "threat to marriage." His support of gay rights is his biggest problem. Anti-gay bigots are the swing vote that delivered Ohio to Bush. They're not going away anytime soon.
'Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States.' how is that NOT a threat. how can you be so ignorant?
george tenant got a medal of freedom for telling bush that iraq wmd's were a slam dunk and paul bremer got a medal of freedom for the total incompetence that he showed after saddams fall. these people reward failure - its what they do and are.
I refuse to vote for any of the higher-ups in the current administration. To me, only Powell has managed to save face from this group.
I suspect that Giuliani is only as pro-gay rights and pro-choice as any credible mayoral candidate in New York City would have to have been. I'm also wondering how many gaybortion issues an official would deal with at a city, rather than state or federal, level. If none or few, than a mayoral candidate calling oneself pro-choice or pro-gay, might really just be lip service. Dollars to donuts he pulls the Roberts/Alito "just doing my job" gambit come primary time. That or the Catholic thing. Kind of like a certain postwar Southern Senate Majority Leader who may or may not have supported strong civil rights legislation. Not sure if I can respond to the adulterer thing; have to do some researCh and find out if we've ever eLected a presIdeNt who previously cheaTed ON his wife.
I came in the door, i said it before I never let the mic magnatize me no more But it's biting me, fighting me, inviting me to rhyme I can't hold it back, I'm looking for the line, Taking off my coat, clearing my throat My rhyme will be kicking it until I hit my last note My mind'll range to find all kinds of ideas Self-esteem makes it seem like a thought took years to build But still say a rhyme after the next one Prepared, never scared, I'll just bless one And you know that I'm the soloist So Eric B, make 'em clap to this I don't bug out or chill or be acting ill No tricks in '86, it's time to build Eric B easy on the cut, no mistakes allowed Cuz to me, MC means move the crowd I made it easy to dance to this But can you detect what's coming next from the flex of the wrist Saying indeed that I precede cuz my man made a mix If he bleed he won't need no band-aid to fix If they can get some around until there's no rhymes left I hurry up because the cut will make 'em bleed to death But he's kicking it because it ain't no half stepping The party is live, the rhyme can't be kept in- Side, it needs erupting just like a volcano It ain't the everyday style of the same old rhyme Because I'm better then the rest of them Eric B is on the cut and my name is Rakim Go get a girl and get soft and warm, Don't get excited, you've been invited to a quiet storm But now it's out of hand cuz you told me you hate me And then you ask what have I done lately First you said all you want is love and affection Let me be your angel and I'll be your protection Take you out, buy you all kinds of things I must of got you too hot and burned off your wings You caught an attitude, you need food to eat up I'm scheming like I'm dreaming on a couch wit my feet up You scream I'm lazy, you must be crazy Thought I was a donut, you tried to glaze me Funky...
Dude, I would never deny calling a bigot a bigot. If I called Dahmer a murderer would that hurt your feelings? What if I called David Duke a racist? What about back when racism was commonly accepted? Would it be "name calling" to call a KKK guy back then a bigot? Robert Byrd, one of my favorite Democrats, was a bigot back in the day. And if I'd called him one then you'd have called me a "name caller." Why? Because bigotry against blacks was accepted then. If you choose to support legislation that discriminates against gay people you're a bigot against gay people. "Name calling" implies I arbitrarily came up with some insult to describe certain people. It's not an insult when it's a known and admitted fact.
I don't think Jefferson actually cheated on his wife, 13 years between his first wife's death (1782) and the birth of Sally Hemmings' child (1795). Even so, the general public at the time probably didn't believe the Sally Hemmings story. I honestly didn't until the DNA test. Eisenhower cheated during WWII, FDR cheated (I think his death, a stroke allegedly in the company of his mistress, was the basis for the President's death in "Dave"). Not sure if either of these was public enough to affect voters' decisions. Harding was a freak, but it was the roaring '20s so people might not have cared as much. Giuliani's one unique weakness is that he actually married the wench, who he was working with, and he even married her at the mayoral mansion. And she would be the First Lady. Remember when his wife at the time, Donna Hanover, held that "my husband's a jerk" press conference? Ouch. Get ready to see that clip in a continuous loop during a Giuliani presidential run, especially if it's against Hillary. Which will then be countered with file footage of Rudy at Ground Zero, and of Hillary being booed by those firefighters at that 9/11 police benefit. Politics is fun.
why is david duke a racist (present tense) and robert byrd "was a bigot back in the day"? they are both former klansmen. personally, i dont see how you come back from something like being in the klan. at the very least it should permanently exclude you from any kind of public service. i dont care how good he is now, but like duke, robert byrd has no buisness being in office. he a former member of a murdering terrorist group. there is no redemption there, imo.
