http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/04/08/911.commission/ WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Under sometimes sharp questioning, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice testified Thursday that there was "no silver bullet" that could have stopped the attacks of September 11, 2001. "Had we thought that there was an attack coming in Washington or New York, we would have moved heaven and earth to try and stop it," Rice told the independent commission investigating the attacks. "And I know that there was no single thing that might have prevented that attack." (Transcript of Rice's opening comments But Rice was pressed repeatedly about an intelligence memo presented to President Bush one month before the attacks, a document that referred to al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden and possible hijackings. The existence of that August 6, 2001, memo, called a presidential daily briefing, has been reported before, but details about it came out Thursday. Asked by Democratic commissioner Richard Ben-Veniste, a former Watergate prosecutor who has read the memo, to recall the title, Rice said: "I believe the title was 'Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States.' " Family members of some 9/11 victims could be seen shaking their heads in the hearing room as they heard those words. More than 3,000 people were killed on September 11, 2001, when 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial U.S. jets and crashed them into New York's World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in western Pennsylvania. Rice insisted the memo did not give any advance warning of what was to happen. "It did not warn of attacks inside the United States," Rice said. "It was historical information based on old reporting." Later, however, Democractic commissioner Bob Kerrey, a former senator from Nebraska, said the memo told the president "that the FBI indicates patterns of suspicious activity in the United States consistent with preparations for hijacking." The panel asked the White House to declassify the document. Thursday afternoon, a spokesman for the National Security Council said the administration was "actively looking at the declassification process" and hoped to release it.(Full story)
Determined = threat? Not exactly Looks like the liberals are quibbling over semantics. Now that's a great use of your time, guys, really.
And no link will ever change your mind so I repeat, what's the point? If the link comes from anywhere to the left of Fox you'll say it isn't credible. If you have no way to discredit the evidence you'll go poof. So why should people go find links for you? By the way, I'm still waiting for you to explain your vote that Coretta Scott King wasn't a liberal. tia.
So the phrase "Determined to Attack" is not a threat? No wonder 9-11 happened on Dubya's watch. With supporters like you, it's a slam dunk, isn't it!
Groundskeeper Willie: Ach! I am determined to rape yur daughter!! Homer: Oh, well if he's determined, then it's not a threat. Enjoy your day at school, Lisa!
It was noted contemporaneously on this board. But the transcripts are public record anyway. why do you even say "link?" You always get burned. I will only provide you a link if you promise me that when I do, you will post "I GOT DONE GOOD AN' BURNIED UP BY OL'SAMMY SAM FISHER!" deal?
Want I will never understand is when after she misSed something that important as national security advisor she got PROMOTED to sec. of state.
I like to ask for links when I notice that people are dishonestly spinning things. That is what I did in this case, and I was correct. I remain unconvinced of your claims.
Let's see. She's the muppet for the reigning Puppet. I'll pass on that ticket. The NeoCons are desparately trying to push her as a buffer on the women vote against Hillary, but really it's pathetic. She has as much commanding presence as her idiot boss.
