Dang, I was about to say that exact thing Also, Muddy Waters Magic Sam Elmore James Big Bill Broonzy Miles Davis Charlie Parker John Coltrane T.Monk Kirk Roland Thin Lizzy Jimi (of course) John Lennon...
coma - guns n' roses can't be the same to me without slash or izzy. i'll definitely give the new album a listen in hopes that it's good, but those 2 were as big a part as axl. i'd probably go to the concert to hear old gnr tunes live though. doesn't buckethead wear like a kfc bucket on his head during the show? i'm guessing his nickname came from that.
I probably wouldn't pay more than around 30 bucks to see an Axl Rose solo gig either. I just found out that Buckcherry broke up, you can add them to my list.
1. Bob Marley & The Wailers 2. The Beatles 3. The Grateful Dead- saw'em once 4. Elvis 5. Led Zeppelin 6. Pink Floyd 7. Otis Redding 8. Marvin Gaye There are just too many
Beethoven's Ode to Joy (probably the whole symphony, but especially that movement), I thought that scene in Immortal Beloved kicked ass. He was standing there and thinking about his childhood, the music stops, his attendant touches his arm, he turns around, and the audience is giving him a standing ovation. The same people who were laughing at him when he could not contuct another symphony earlier because he was deaf. To be deaf and write such beautiful music, is really just astonishing.
Beatles Pink Floyd Bob Marley and the Wailers(I haven't been exposed to much of his music, but what I have, I like) And probably, U2(They may go on tour again, but it would be very hard to get tickets, as it was this last tour) I would also like to have seen some other previously-mentioned bands like Led Zeppelin and the Police, but not nearly as much as the four mentioned above. I am fortunate to be able to say that I caught Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band the last time they toured.
Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Bob Marley, The Beatles, The Who with Keith Moon, The Clash, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding with Booker T and the MG's, Johnny Cash, Talking Heads, XTC, Stewart Copeland beating up Sting, Led Zeppelin (David Yow of Jesus Lizard, I believe, said he saw them play at the Summit in 1977 for 4 1/2 hours, no opening band..rock!), Black Flag.
Great thread. Most of the people mentioned here from the mid-late 60's to the late 70's I've seen at least once, but I never got to see the Beatles. Paul, George and Ringo in different concerts, but never The Beatles. Missed John as well.
Well...I must be getting old...not even a "ditto" when I mentioned Woodstock. Here's a quick reminder about a concert that we'll never see. Joan Baez Arlo Guthrie Tim Hardin Incredible String Band Ravi Shankar Richie Havens Sly and the Family Stone Bert Sommer Sweetwater Quill Canned Heat Creedence Clearwater Revival Jefferson Airplane The Who Grateful Dead Keef Hartley Blood, Sweat and Tears Crosby, Stills & Nash (&Young) Santana Jeff Beck Group The Band Ten Years After Johnny Winter Jimi Hendrix Janis Joplin Joe Cocker Mountain Melanie Sha-Na-Na John Sebastian Country Joe and the Fish Paul Butterfield Blues Band RR (I need to find a Leslie West/Mountain cd...another great guitarist-you ever see his short, fat fingers glide over a fret board?)
isn't that just an amazing story!!?? i didn't think that far back, but you're so right...it would have been amazing to see Beethoven conduct one of his own symphonies.
BigM, I agree, Slash and Izzy were very important to the band. But in Axl's mind, Guns N' Roses IS his solo project. Anyway, yea, Buckethead wears a KFC bucket over his head. But damn, he is an amazing guitarist. Steve Vai is the only one I can think of that can play faster than him. I've heard about 5 new songs from the new album, and it is awesome stuff. If you know anything about the trilogy, apparently there's an additional piece to that story, called "This I Love." The song was recorded by the original members of Guns N' Roses. Well, without Adler anyway. The new lineup, is much more talented than the original. But Guns just isn't Guns without Slash. If you miss Izzy, buy his solo albums, great stuff. Slash's Snakepit, which I saw at the engine Room is great live, but most of their albums sucked. Glad they broke up. TheFreak - the lead singer and drummer of BuckCherry teamed up with Slash, Duff, and Izzy a few months ago to play together. They had so much fun, that they are jokingly calling themselves Cherry Roses and are exploring playing a few LA dates. Izzy has already confirmed that he wants no part of any tours; one the biggest reasons he left Guns in the first place.
