More 'freedom' with a smaller audience? I suppose. Didn't work for the NHL. There's no TBS on my cable package.
how much freedom does the nhl need? were they going to use masterbating bears and pimp-bots for mascots?
That's because hockey sucks. Conan doesn't. What cable do you have? Unless you have a bare bones package or a smaller vender, I've never seen TBS not on a basic lineup for cable and satellite. I know it has been for 3 different services I've used.
Good for Conan! I have a sneaky suspicion that Conan will eventually replace Letterman on CBS, when Dave retires, without the drama.
Nice of you to think of me, sir... but... meh, I didn't even watch Conan as you guys did... and George Lopez's show sucks.
This. WTF kind of cable package doesn't include TBS? Do you have some cable package that only includes NBC, ABC, NBS, FOX, WGN, C-Span, C-Span 2, PBS, Telemundo, and the local access channel?
I'm more happy that this means George Lopez's show is being pushed even further away from prime time. I can't find the remote fast enough when that abysmal **** comes on after I've been watching Family Guy or The Office on TBS.
Well that's the difference between comedy and sports. As the Daily show and Colbert report have shown, you can be a cable program with a fraction of the audience of a network and still make an impact on pop culture. Conan will make less money on TBS but it's also a safer bet vs having to appease the fox affiliates (who could very possibly revolt against Conan like the nbc ones turned on Leno when he didn't get the ratings). I've been thinking that he should have done cable in the first place. Although I was more thinking about comedy central and forming a "Dream Team" lineup with Daily show and Colbert.
Wouldn't it be fair to say it's been that way for a while? Are there even ten major media companies in existence? I'm suprised Yahoo, Netflix and New York Times haven't been gobbled up yet.
For those saying Conan "Leno'd" Lopez... "The press release states that TBS began negotiations with O'Brien last week, after George Lopez, who has his own late-night show on the channel, personally called the displaced "Tonight Show" host and asked him to join the lineup. "I can't think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in," Lopez said in the press release. "It's the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy." O'Brien's still-untitled, one-hour show will air Mondays through Thursdays at 11 p.m. ET/PT starting in November. "Lopez Tonight," which currently airs at 11 p.m., will shift to midnight." -MTV News
I agree with this. All Lopez does is just talk really loud and in Spanish accent nothing funny at all. One major problem Conan will have is the direct competition with the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. I love all three comedians so it'll be hard (setting it up for Swoly)
