Leno attempts to get people back on his side. I wonder if she'll get him to cry.

Oprah Winfrey to Interview Jay Leno; Possibly Conan O'Brien

    By KATE STANHOPE
    TV GUIDE

Now that he's returning to his spot behind the desk on The Tonight Show, Jay Leno will get a chance to further discuss the move with Oprah Winfrey.

NBC dumps Conan for $45 million payoff; reinstates Jay as Tonight Show host

Winfrey announced on her show Friday that she was traveling to Los Angeles for a one-on-one interview with Leno to air Thursday. Her production company, Harpo, has also put out an offer to exiting Tonight Show host Conan O'Brien but his appearance has not yet been confirmed, the company told The Associated Press.

Leno's public persona has taken a notable hit in recent weeks after NBC's failed attempt to move O'Brien to 12:05 to allow Leno to return to late night. O'Brien ended his seven-month run as Tonight Show host Friday and Leno will resume hosting duties March 1.

I thought I read that NBC put into Conan's buyout that he couldn't even make personal appearances for three months.

But yeah, Jay's "I'm a Nice Guy, I Swear" tour begins.

I'm sure NBC will bounce back just fine, just like the good ol days.

if thats the case (i dont believe it is), than nbc still screwed his career over for the long-term.

in 2004 conan turned down more money from fox to take the tonight show in 2009.

if he was all about the money he would have bolted then, but he wanted the tonight show.

just watched the fallon intro where they did its so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

it made me realize this crazily inane coincidence...

i graduated high school in 1993 - the year conan debuted.

our class voted freebird (conan) the class song.

the student council and some conspirators usurped the will of the people and decided it would be its to hard to say goodbye to yesterday (fallon) instead.

the class revolted and forced the usurpers to re-change it back to freebird and all was well.

i think this might be a sign that conan will be back.

The saddest part of this story is that I would have sided with the Student Council, or tried to change it "Gangsta Lean" or something. Since Forrest Gump hadn't come out until a later, I probably wouldn't have known what Freedbird was. Boys II Men debut album music in '93, wow, R&B had a much longer shelf life back then. Seriously, why the hell do pep rallies or class songs even exist?

NBC execs felt his show was a flop -- but Conan's got more than 32 million reasons to feel like a winner.

The Peacock Network has agreed in principle to fork over $32.5 million to Conan O'Brien to leave as "The Tonight Show" host and give Jay Leno the chance to reclaim his mantle as the king of late-night talk shows, sources said yester day.

The deal also reportedly provides severance pack ages totaling $7.5 million for the show's loyal staffers, many of whom packed up with their families and moved across the country to work for O'Brien, whose previous show taped in the Big Apple.

But O'Brien is demanding still additional millions more for those closest to him, including sidekick Andy Richter, executive producer Jeff Ross and band leader drummer Max Weinberg, sources said.

The proposed pact comes as Leno prepares to forget his disastrous 10 p.m. "Jay Leno Show" and move back to 11:35 p.m.

The decision to let O'Brien walk apparently came down to who was cheaper to let go.

Leno has an ironclad, "brilliantly written" agreement that guarantees his production company a staggering $150 million if NBC Universal axes his flailing primetime show, an insider said.

That deal was news to O'Brien until Monday night, when Leno referred to it in his monologue.

O'Brien's last show could be Friday, and until any pact with NBC is signed, he's free to keep insulting the network on the air.

Last night, he couldn't resist, saying the network "is headed downhill faster than a fat guy chasing a runaway cheese wheel."

But his criticism of Leno is likely to be kept more under wraps, although behind the scenes he's made no bones about being angry at Leno's on-air remarks Monday defending himself as someone following company orders.

Under the terms of O'Brien's buyout, NBC Universal could deduct the amount of any new deal he strikes with another network from the $32.5 million.

I'm pretty sure there was a wink-wink deal in the first place to move Leno back if his show fails. There's no way NBC give him such a huge buyout when the experiment is such a huge risk in the first place. The 150 million buyout is like those ridiculous tail-end years of NFL contracts. It would've never reached that point.

As for Conan, I hope he's spending his time on new concepts. The guy is at his best as a writer, and not as a standup comedian. And I hope his new show takes advantage of that.

That's probably the case but the possibility he could've walked away with the money still existed. NBC wanted to move his show. He had timeslot protection.

that reminds me didnt Conan do a bit back in like 94 that poked fun at this? he comes down to Houston and no one knows who he is. a crackhead wants to fight him at the bus station.

as for injustice, it's hard to get on board with all that since he was paid a fair severance by NBC and Conan himself was given a large hand in determining whether he'd stay on the network. in the real world, if you're boss is screwing you, you definitely aint going to get all that.

what's more repellent isn't how it's injustice but really stupid. keeping Leno over Conan seems like a terrible move for the network, among other needless missteps like moving Leno to 10 in the first place or ruining the network with crap game shows and reality like Howie Mandel. the injustice is how this Zucker guy is keeping his own job because I guess he's really good at kissing his bosses' asses no matter how bad he keeps ****ing up

conan will be fine and leno will be fine, NBC's stockholders and GE are the ones who are taking it in the ass for hundreds of millions of dollars
