NBC was going to give the show to Conan, whatever Jay's decision going to be so he agreed to hand over the show, even if he didn't want to, just to prevent a repeat of what happened between him and Letterman. He was still under contract when he handed over the show so, rather than have him bolt to another station, NBC gave him a show.

I can't see how he's to blame for anything.

I think this explains it perfectly:

Do people not like Jimmy Fallon??
i Love his show..he has had some of the funniest things ive ever seen...

1.) his Neal Young Impression while singing the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song...golden
2.) almost all of his "thank you note fridays" are amazing
3.) The let us play with your look skit with will ferrel and "lets get personal" with will ferrel in the same episode...

i just dont understand why people dont like him that much...

i know his monologue isnt the best but the rest of the show is awesome...

to me fallon is funnier than all of them...people i talk to that dont like him is because of snl, and how he always used to break character. To me, that is the best part of the show because it shows that they are human. Not to mention he was on the cast at a time when so was will ferrell. I dont know how anyone could keep a straight face with him on the same sketch as you.

He used to break character on purpose to get cheap laughs, which is why no one likes him. Even some of the cast members didn't like him. Tracy Morgan supposedly refused to be in any sketches with him because of it.

I gotta say, the breaking character on purpose thing is one of the lamest accusations I've ever heard.

Tim Conway used to crack up Harvey Korman and the whole cast of the Carol Burnett show all the time. You really think those old school pros who probably laughed way more often than Fallon were doing it on purpose?

The whole cast on the Carol Burnett show would laugh and break character. But, on SNL, only Fallon did that regularly. You never saw Tracy Morgan, Will Ferrell, etc. break character is almost EVERY sketch.

I really think NBC will be kicking themselves about this decision. Conan has come off as incredibly likable over the last two weeks, and has undoubtedly won over some new viewers who were just tuning in to see what all the fuss was about. His decision to openly talk about the whole thing on his show has made him extremely relatable to the average viewer, especially anyone who has ever been laid off. I am sure wherever he goes next, he will have a nice little following due to all of these shenanigans.

On another note, it was really cool tonight when Norm surprised Conan. He seemed genuinely happy to see Norm and you can just tell Conan really appreciates all of the support he is getting. It is obvious this was his dream job, and now it is being ripped away from him.

Point is he went for the cheap laugh and laughed at his own material, which annoyed people. He was also extremely full of himself and a poser... he thought he was Sandler on the show, when he was more on the level of Kevin Nealon or someone else who rides on coattails of more funny cast members.

Although he's much better on Late Night than he used to be (still does that affected hands-in-pocket pose when he's introduced... going for a walk there Jimmy?)

The shocking part all this is that Oski thinks the Carol Burnett Show is funny. Exactly how old a dude are you? Norma Desmond and Scarlett Ohara jokes getting it done for you then? I think you would have had to have been 60 years old in the 70s when that show actually ran to get any of the jokes that they made on that show.

He's gonna get killed in overall demographics if he goes to Fox. His show might make money ala Zucker's plan, but late night is pretty saturated.

It'll be interesting to see what his options really are.

Fallon has surprised me with his show. I thought it would be a complete failure, but they guy is actually pretty good and has some damn funny stuff on his show. He is much better suited for this than SNL

Also, here's last night's round-up. Letterman was killing Leno:

I actually agree with this. He's much less of a douche than he was on SNL. He was so ****ing annoying, playing with his pencil like Letterman, copying Sandler with the songs and biting his lip during his own bits like he was couldn't help but laugh at his own awesomeness.

I guess what it says is that Lorne Michaels is a genius. He was right about Conan and he was actually right that Fallon could do a decent job late night.

Actually I think all the guys on right now save Leno are pretty good. Colbert is straight up hilarious. Craig Ferguson doesnt have very good writers but he's very very good on his own. Kimmel gets a lot of hate but his show is fun to watch because Kimmel is great with the one liners with his guests.

Letterman is mailing it in, but he's Letterman so he gets a pass. I used to love Jon Stewart on his first late night show but he's still far from terrible on the Daily Show. Even the dude on talk soup is pretty funny.

All this means that Conan is going to have to actually take someone's viewers when he comes back, which will be hard. Despite everything Conan's problems weren't entirely manufactured by Jeff Zucker, people weren't watching Conan. Most of his juice comes from years-old (or even decades-old) material like Triumph, his trips to Finland and his Harvard speech than anything he's done recently.
