Maybe you should look at that video that was posted...pretty damning stuff. People change their minds sure. Nothing wrong with that. But if he wanted to stay on late night just go to another network, instead of undermining the Tonight Show. You can't even accept that Leno is at least partly to blame for this debacle.

Conan certainly has earned a lot of money in his time on the air...even before Tonight. And he'll probably be just fine. And it's not like I'm a huge fan of any of the late night hosts anyways. I just think it's pretty despicable how they've treated the man. And now, they are even making it difficult for him to go to another network.

If Leno's show didn't fail miserably, none of this would have happened.

this is pretty much the bottom line.

the suits at NBC failed miserably with their prime time experiment, and just like they didn't want to lose Conan five years ago, they didn't want to lose Conan in 2009.

In the process they have dragged The Tonight Show name through the mud.

Johnny Carson is rolling in his grave...

Legally, no. Morally and professionally, he should have stepped aside with grace or should have worked out a deal with NBC well in advance of Conan taking over.

There is a such thing as right and wrong. Leno falls on the wrong side of that scale.

Money is one thing. The intangible is the satisfaction of putting in decades of work to obtain the top job that you have always wanted. Conan achieved that, only to have the rug pulled out from under him by Leno.

Johnny Carson would not have approved.

I guess not, unless you are the guy that is getting the old screwjob.

Leno did make a choice. The choice was to screw over Conan. Time will tell whether this was a good move. I doubt that Leno will have nearly the ratings he enjoyed before. There are a lot of people that I know that used to watch Leno and have vowed never to watch him again.

Just because Conan has money does not mean that he has not been harmed. People work long hours and sacrifice time with family, etc to get a job like that...then to have Leno yank it away from you has got to sting.

Why are you on Leno's jock anyway?

And let's not forget about the people that had to relocate across country for his show only to be out of work 7 months later. Not very fair to them.

When Kimmel was on Leno, I think he summed it up best when Jay asked him about his best prank and Kimmel responded I promised a guy my show 5 years from now only to take it back instantly.

Conan waited 5 years for it and never really got the chance to run with it. He could've left for more lucrative deals 5 years ago but he didn't because he was promised something he dreamed for and in the end he never really got it.

While the ratings were so low that the affiliates, who keep NBC on the air, were losing money.

    "What is that demonry?!?"

And that single line espouses exactly why the there is more ingenious humor in Conan's little finger than a thousand writers could ever conjure up for Jay Leno.

    That was brilliant!

I still miss his old shows with the pics of Sadam and Prez Bush with the lips cut out for the skits. Those used to have me rollin'!

That crap had me pissing my pants.

I'm not shocked though when a Leno-watcher tells me they don't find it funny.

    Looks like Conan is out:

    http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2010/01/18/arts/entertainment-us-conan.html

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Conan O'Brien's "Tonight Show" dream is over.

NBC brass certainly are praying that the same can be said for the PR nightmare that the late-night debacle has caused the network. On Sunday, attorneys from both sides were putting the final touches on a financial settlement that ends O'Brien's seven-month stint as "Tonight" host. The payoff to O'Brien is said to be close to $40 million.

The pact also includes sizable severance packages for O'Brien's longtime executive producer Jeff Ross and the rest of the "Tonight" staff, some of it possibly coming out of O'Brien's settlement paycheck.

O'Brien is expected to tape his last "Tonight Show" on Friday. Jay Leno will return to the "Tonight" desk March 1 after the Winter Olympics.
