Don't you mean an easy life?

I can't imagine someone living a hard life get sick over some talk show host lying about his future plans in 5 years.

You know, after looking over the ratings, I don't get all this talk of Conan's crappy ratings and getting his ass kicked by everyone else.

    http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/01/04/conan-beats-dave-with-18-49-viewers-in-4th-quarter/37565

Even if Letterman has more viewers overall, Conan has by far the better demographics. Almost 10 years younger in terms of median age. Tied in the all-important 18-49 demographic, and killing everyone else in the even more scarce 18-34 demographic. For a 1st year talk show with the crappiest lead-in in the history of network TV(low ratings + same show type), it's amazing he's done so well.

Personally, I thought he was more in the dumps. Mainly because his Tonight Show sucks compared to his old stuff(recent episodes notwithstanding). But it seems like viewship isn't half bad.

Leno is not the lead in for Conan, the news is, just like it's always been.

And the local news on NBC stations across the country have seen their ratings plummet which is why they've been putting pressure on NBC to do something about Leno. It's a chain reaction that affects everything that comes on after Leno.

Agreed, but saying Conan has the worst lead in in history is kind of disingenuous.

Let's also remember that NBC primetime has been struggling for awhile now and it never seemed to impact Leno.

The way this hold thing was handled sucked of course - but Conan's tonight show gig just wasn't working. He needs a smaller late show with programing that is more focused on comedy skits than interviews. The Late show was just too big of production for him -- he seemed like a fish out of water.

I prefer Letterman, but I think that most who flipped over and saw Conan's tonight show would agree he was in over his head.

There's a difference between "struggling" and "Leno". Notice how affiliates weren't complaining with the struggling NBC primetime before Leno went on.

The drop off was like an average of 25%. 48% in NYC and 47% in LA. Are you sure worst lead in history is just hyperbole?

What exactly wasn't working? People usually say Conan is better at interviewing guests than Jay.

I definitely feel he is a much better interviewer than Leno is, but I always thought Conan seemed out of his element and wasn't too comfortable on the Tonight Show. I'm sure with time he would have found his zone.

But Conan is his best when he can try whatever he wants to do. Even when skits would fail, Id find myself laughing at Conan.

Leno wasn't the direct lead in for Conan was the point.

Also, why do Conan defenders point to the short time he got to make the Tonight Show work and ignore the fact that Leno got less time to make Primetime work?

How are his ratings compared to when Leno had the tonight show? I'm thinking they're using previous Tonight Show success as the measuring stick for Conan's show.
