My parents watch the Tonight Show and they love Leno.

    They don't like Conan.

I don't care for Leno, I think I prefer Conan (but I haven't watched him much -- and am not too interested in the show anyways). I do like the youtube clips of Fergeson -- so I think he's the one I like best -- but I don't watch.

I don't feel bad for Conan. It's the nature of TV and showbiz. He got very well paid, and known by being on NBC. Maybe he gave up better opportunities? But who knows how they would have turned out. His stock has never been higher. And he'll be OK. NBC picked Leno over Letterman years ago and it turned out to be the right choice for them. I prefer Letterman -- but I don't watch. My parents (who do) preferred Leno.

I suspect I'll continue to not watch whatever talk show NBC puts on at 11:35. Regardless of the host. I'm surprised I care. The jokes and skits have been good though. Again -- thanks youtube. But if their best source of material is their own quibbling over who gets what timeslot, I'm probably not missing too much.

Yes, and the fact that those that do actually watch Jay probably don't stick around after the news for Conan. All the monologues on late night TV tend to joke about the same subjects.

Absolutely. That's why NBC is canning Jay's show from prime time -- it's killing the raitings for both prime time and late night.

I heard the problem was the affiliate News ratings were down 20%+. And apparently the local news is a big revenue source for the local stations -- so they had to address that.

Leno was not a good lead-in. So I guess they'll run some Law and Order reruns or something like that at 10:00 instead.

The talk show at 10 was the move that didn't work.

Which left them with the decision of who they wanted after the news, and I guess they chose Leno. Not so much to play 'fair' but a decision about the demographic that watches talk shows at that time.

Most old people watch these shows. Like my dad and probabely me when I get that age.

I use to watch David Letterman when I was in college because there was really very little choice back then at 11:30pm. I mean we didn't have 5 HBOs, 6 Showtimes, Fox SPorts, 4 ESPNS etc...

Ya but they had Leno on everynight instead of 5 different drama shows at 10pm.

This would be similar to if the Clippers traded Griffin right now just because they want to fill his roster spot with someone who can contribute right now. And I'm not talking about a long-term player, but someone who's going to retire soon anyways.

folks need to lighten up on leno, general opinion of CFers is that leno sux, leno isn't funny, go away leno

but leno is a very very likable person in general, and he is no fool, i doubt he would go to NBC behind closed doors and demand his 11:30 slot back because of the cancellation to his prime time show, everyone and their mothers knows that he will take a massive PR hit...

this situation exists because of the moronic NBC exects, and if this is a ratings ploy... then i suppose mission accomplished

    .

considering that his colleagues don't like him (other comedians), I'm going to doubt that he is a likable guy

This is the same Leno who hid in a closet listening in on NBC execs picking Carson's replacement and figuring out how to appease them. I think you're shortchanging how competitive and strategic he can be.

totally agree, I dont normally watch late night at all anymore as that is when I am catching up on my recorded shows. I was watching the local news last night on NBC (Dominique FTW), and caught the first part of Conan...which I decided to watch to see what he would say about all this....was not disappointed. He was hilarious...and it got even better when Gervais came out and was goading him to keep slamming NBC.

I'm not a fan of the late night routine, not my cup of tea. More into satire i.e. Colbert/Stewart... but Conan has always been a breath of fresh air on Late Night TV as opposed to the absurd, dry Letterman jokes, or the Leno corniness.

I for one, would be sad to see him go but I think he'd do a lot better if he had a show that gave him more liberties to go ahead and get really crazy with it.

Why the f*** do we keep referring to these shows as "10 o'clock" or "11:30" shows?

    This is TEXAS, people!

    that means 9:00 & 10:30!

You ****ing yankees can pack your knives and go, thank you very much.

Same here, but I had to tune in last night. The interview with Gervais was hilarious.
