OK, I'm going to try this stuff now but I have to go to school and won't be back till later tonight. I'll post the results from school though. Thanks!
No. It's not. Resetting the bios restores the factory default settings for the bios program. Flashing the bios actually replaces the bios program that resides on the motherboard with a different version, and almost always has to be done from a DOS prompt. Pun, follow R2K's advice - he's guiding you down the right path. And be patient. This is part of the fun and madness of building a machine: figuring out how to put the pieces together and how to get it all working happily. Definitely start with nothing else attached. I start with no RAM, no video card, and no other hardware attached. If I power on and hear some beeps, that means I've got power but no RAM. From there, I add the RAM, video card, and monitor and power on. If I can see the RAM test, I know that the video card is probably working and the RAM is either working or close (if the RAM test shows all the RAM correctly, then it's correct). -- droxford
OK, I'll post this now. I unplugged everything from the mobo as told. I laid the mobo (with RAM installed) on the non-static material it came with. I pushed the power button and voila, I had a little success. The CPU fan came on and stayed on and the computer sounded as if it were trying to boot up then it started beeping a lot then it sounded like it restarted. One thing, I didn't expect the HD led to light up but I did expect the power led to but it didn't, is that any type of sign? I'll leaveeverything as is and when I get back from school around 8 I'll begin plugging components in one by one unless you all post some other tips. Thanks a lot!!!
Well I'm back with my final report. After unplugging everything then plugging everything up one by one I found that nothing was causing the problem because everything worked. So I sat the mobo with everything attached to it inside the case and then try to turn it on and nothing happens again, no power to anything. I then lift the mobo out of the case and bam it comes on. The case has got to be interfering with the power some how but how? What do I do?
sounds like a grounding issue? the board is short-circuiting when it's connected to the motherboard? make sure all the little risers etc are on the case well, and when in doubt, add more risers to make sure it's secure.
another thing. you arent using those little fiber washers they sometimes include with the motherboards are you? makes sure the risers in the case are only where there is a screwhole in the mobo...and that each riser has a screw going into it. Definitely a grounding issue.
It looks like all the riser are going into the screw holes. Fiber washer? I don't think so. I'll try again after I get home today.
Tried it R2K to no avail. Is it possible that I could coat the case with something? I took a look at the inside of the case and compared it to mine and mine looks like it has some sort of grey coating of paint and so does my Dell at work.
Do they sell a special type of paint anywhere that I could put on the inside of the case that would fix the grounding issue?
