I didn't compare the two as equals. I should have said tried to copy the Mac OS of the day, but calling ME a knockoff is pretty close -- and no microsoft was not successful in their attempt to accomplish this. As a Mac user around 2000 -- certainly the Mac OS was far superior. Like Aces i've had much better luck with ME than Win 98, but we are talking (and on the edge of debating) some ancient OS tech here. _________ As a home OS to surf the web, work on little PS projects, etc. -- ME is fine. I just haven't had all of these problems folks are talking about.
well today all this became a moot point... my old laptop kept getting an error at the very beginning of startup that indicates in needs some sort "EKC" error which i googled and it may need some sort of keyboard software update (6 keys suddenly are not working)... anyways i don't want years of dealing with this crap - i'm just going to get here a new computer. my wife uses a laptop and so we have one computer for traveling, i think just a new deskop (one of those 299-499 dell deals should be good enough for an 8y.o for 3-4 years)
ME was horrible, it was slow, man was it slow, it had MAJOR problems. Get XP while you can, Vista is about to come out so you might get XP cheap
If all she does is browse the web and make documents, just put linux on there and itll run beautifully. The learning curve is minimum to get setup and started plus it doesnt take a powerful machine to run the OS. Ubuntu, Centos, are some good choices for desktops. Just an option than running extremely buggy ME or 98x.
I just don't understand this statement ~ are you talking about when it first came out? I have never had any of these issues. Dumb luck I guess. I have now pulled XP out and set it next to the machine...
