Try removing the floppy from the A drive and rebooting. Seriously though, maybe it's overheating. Open up your pc and make sure the cpu fan is working. Overheating can cause a PC the throttle and cause slowdowns. Also, you can download something like cpu-z that will report temps at various sensors on the motherboard and CPU.
Sounds like only the browser is “frozen”, not the OS. If Alt+Tab still works, the OS is not frozen Browsers will freeze if they’ve been open for awhile with many tabs; ie they become a memory hog. Also, if you have any constantly running application like BitTorrent software, that will contribute. Solution: keep Task Manager open at all times, and when the browser freezes, Kill it via Task Manager. This can also be done at command line with “Run as Administrator” using this command: taskkill /IM “chrome.exe” /F
I am thinking this is the issue because I usually have several tabs open but it has happened when I don't have many tabs open. I can't click on anything when it freezes not just in the browser but I will try this Thanks.
What kinda specs do you have for the CPU and RAM? I have overkill at 64gb, so Google never runs out of ****ing RAM. I make sure of that lol. I use Chrome as well without much issue and I like a good 15-20 tabs open. Although Brave browser is nice too.
The 250 gb ssd is pretty good. 4 gb is a bit low if you want to do any browsing beyond like 4 or 5 tabs open. 8 to 16 gb is pretty good for laptops and RAM. You can find your RAM amount by going to Task Manager ---> Performance tab ---> Memory on the left side.
Yea...spend a lil extra and get 16. Works like new. My i9 work laptop still runs the fan with the amount of tabs I have...
Yeah, when it happens to me, on an old desktop, Task Manager will not respond sometimes, either (like @Invisible Fan meme), but Alt+Tab will allow me to switch programs. So, I learned to have the Command Prompt window open in background with Run as Admin privileges. Command is the least likely program to freeze, allowing me to Alt+Tab to it and kill the browser. See the command to use in my previous post. But I also agree with the defrag recommendations to see if that helps reduce the times it happens.
