I've heard Coke is a laptop's worst enemy. So how was it working after the spillage? Did you experience any freeze-ups? And what had happened? What needed to be repaired?
Does Acer offer service manuals online? Look for something like this: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01135530.pdf I believe most laptops now-a-days have drainage systems built into the keyboards designed to direct spilled liquid onto the bottom of the case. If you didn't exercise proper care when you were draining the liquid(, when you turned it upside down,) you could've allowed the liquid to seep inside through the exhaust vents or allowed it to get into the ports (no broken ports?).
It was working fine after the spillage... some freeze-ups but very few. the repair guy said the fan inside broke down or something. said it was due to the coke.
A lot of stores like Staples sell accidental plans, that cover things like spilling drinks on your laptop or dropping it etc. Speaking of which, one ahole who didn't want to buy the plan from me (i'm a tech), called us up 15 days later (you have 14 days to buy the plan) and asked an employee if there is something that can be done to a laptop he spilt a coke on. He said no. The idiot brought his laptop in anyways and tried to say it stopped working on its own, but we all heard about his phone call. He tried to deny it. But ya, what ended up happening is he paid $80 or so to have a diagnostic done on his pc. It took like 3 days for me to get to it, and when I did it had dried completely....and surprisingly, worked perfectly. Was just a little sticky.
I've heard about these drainage systems. On the other hand, everything I've read leads me to believe that the first two things you have to do is turn the computer off and turn it upside down. So if they work the way you say they do, I can't imagine what the proper way to act would be. I've searched but haven't been able to find any info on my laptop having one such system built in. Wow, your fan broke down months after spilling Coke on the laptop? Did you tell the technician about the Coke? How was he able to tell it was due to Coke?
If they crack it open there will be plenty of residue on the parts inside. Something like Coke would leave a mess behind, I would imagine.
