I am just looking for a simple, free program that would allow me to edit/trim out parts of a video clip that I don't want. I thought Nero had a built-in feature like that but apparently mine doesn't.
Been a while since I used it, but I think you can edit .avi files with this program: http://www.virtualdub.org/ Not sure it can handle other file types.
They have a editor in Nero that is similar to Windows Movie Maker I remember that will let you edit videos. just use that. Otherwise virtual dub will do what you want like the other person mentioned.
Microsoft has supposedly improved their windows movie maker program, so you could check that out. http://download.live.com/moviemaker

I think you can do some basic video editing with Google's Picasa picture viewer. http://hubpages.com/hub/How-To-Edit-Videos-With-Picasa-3 http://knol.google.com/k/using-picasa-3-for-basic-video-editing#
