by the same one again, put your old one in the box and go back and say "this crap doesn't work, I wan't my money back!" ;-)
Damn...now that I think about it...I kinda wanna save up for the next gen systems...dunno how much I'm gonna play the xbox either... Look at me...actually not going after impulse buys! Eh...I'll try to take up some DVD-Rs or something.
That's not a bad idea to wait for the next-gen consoles, IMO, especially since they're so close to coming out. As long as you don't have a problem with a ~$300 price tag, it would be a nice investment. [Sony fanboy talk] And since you had problems with GoW for the PS2, maybe you should get the PS3 and use it to play GoW. [/Sony fanboy talk]
I was in Georgia yesterday during the start of their tax-free weekend. Unlike Texas, computers under $1500 are tax exempt as well. I got the new iBook that was just released day before yesterday for $949 (no tax) from the Apple Store in Atlanta. Beat that, CompUSA.
rc cola.. true about waiting.. then again I could get the xbox now I guess and give me something to play.. and get the new play station when it comes out...
Or I could just borrow someone else's PS2 in college in a few weeks... But I do plan on getting the PS3, especially if Killzone 2 is actually gameplay and other games look like that. It is rumored to be more than 300 though.
Yeah, there's so many options. It depends on a person's preferences on what to do. I have a working PS2 right now, so I can wait. If I didn't, I might want to get the Xbox, then get the PS3 later. Or maybe I'd rather wait a while longer if I can't afford it. Can't really go wrong with any of the options. I'm mostly doubting that we'll get graphics like the Killzone (not sure if it is 2 or 3) demo shown. It seems way too advanced even for next-gen hardware. I will say recent real-time demonstrations like the Gundam demo may help to change my mind; I'd be happy if we could get something that looked 90-95% as good. I've been optimistic about the price of the PS3. FWIW, the PSP and PS2 were said to be much more than the price that they launched at. And there were reports at E3 that the PS3 would debut at around the same price as the PS1 and PS2 in Japan. Recent comments from Kutaragi could just be marketing technique to make MS feel comfortable, or to make people feel like the PS3 is a worthy machine. Or maybe he means that things have changed from E3 and the PS3 may cost more than $400. Who knows? Plus, there's always the option of screwing the Europe and Japan markets in order to sell the PS3 at a ~$300 price tag here, which isn't a bad idea since this is where the Xbox is the strongest. That's right. Yet again, I was able to put in some comments on the PS3 in a thread that shouldn't have anything to do with it.
Well, during E3 someone high up in Sony emphatically stated that it was actual gameplay and in those words too and repeated it. But of course, it could be a load of BS and I've read somewhere where Sony promised some emotion graphics like Toy Story 2 had for the PS2 and didn't deliver. Still though, I have high hopes for PS3.
I wish I knew everything about the Killzone demo. It most like was just CGI. I think the guy you are talking to was a PR guy, while Phil Harrison, head of SCEE, said, IIRC, that it was done to spec. That could be true. For example, in a ways, Heavenly Sword, one of the most impressive next-gen games IMO, was not running in realtime. It was from their in-game engine, though. They were just having some framerate issues in some areas so the sped it up and added some effects (some of which they have since put in their engine). All of this was done on the main processor of Cell and a off-the-shelf GPU(s). The Gundam demo at E3 seemed to be made in similar fashion (prerendered, but build to spec, as the latest demos have clearly shown). So MAYBE...just MAYBE... the Killzone team has something similar to the demo with their engine, but just not up to speed and not with some of the extra effects. They are a little bigger team, IIRC, than the Heavenly Sword team and probably better at getting more from the hardware considering how good the 1st Killzone looked. Still don't think it will be exactly like the demo, but it might be close. I won't really have a good feel on this type of thing until we get some more stuff from devs. I can't make a good impression on what to expect based on prerendered video that may be to PS3 spec and demos of games that don't quite look as good as the prerendered demos, but are barely using the PS3's power. This is a kind of a "hope for the best, but expect the worst" situation for me. And as for the Toy Story thing, that, as well as many other famous quotes supposedly from Sony, never actually come from someone at Sony. Those were usually said by the press or game developers/publishers, not Sony. The PS2 tech demos, which were what Sony used to give you an idea on the PS2 s power, were met and exceeded by the PS2. On the other hand, Seamus Blackley of Microsoft did say the Xbox could produce Toy Story graphics, and the Raven tech demo was never met by the Xbox. I know this may sound a little more like my old Sony fanboy self that I've been trying to avoid, but those are some facts that some people tend to forget. BTW Astro101, that last part was more of a rant than a direct response to what you said. Your comments just reminded me of these things. Oh and uh...um...great sale. There, I'm on topic.
has anyone been to CompUSA today? are there any other good deals not listed in the Houston Chronicle ad?
I have. Bought 150 DVD-Rs for $32 (note: they're Kypermedia brand 4x in jewel cases, wrapped in packs of 10). I haven't seen the chronicle ad, so I don't know. In the store, they only had a xerox of the ad. I'll try to scan it and post here.
i got there at 8:30.. bought the tv, dvd player, kodak camera, and dvd-rs... i'm extremely upset with the customer service.. i would go into a big long rant, but it's not going to help me at all.. and at least i got what i was after eventually..
WTF? i didn't see these. i ended up getting a compusa brand of 100 cds ($25) and a pack of 80 jewel cases ($10).
Close. But the google search results don't show what model number is on sale at CompUSA. Finally, I got my scanner to work. Here is the flyer, broken into chunks to preserve resolution. Looks like the Panasonic model number is PT-50LC14. Donnymost - I didn't mean for my 'google' response to be smart-ass. But if you still feel the need for payback, just take heart in the fact that you have a nice new 50" LCD HDTV, and I don't. Macalu - sorry, dude. Don't know what to tell you. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y24/droxford2/Ads/Flyer2a.gif http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y24/droxford2/Ads/Flyer2b.gif http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y24/droxford2/Ads/Flyer2c.gif
Panasonic only makes one 50 inch LCD HD tv.. so I figured that link would answer your question. But anyway.. just got back from Comp USA again.. i bought both the SD and the Compact Flash memory cards for 9.99 each.. i spent WAY too much money today..
