Yeah it's dollar bill size but it's an HDMI switch, no component like you were asking for. I wonder how much it is though. I might add an HDMI switch to my components in the future. I'd like to play my PS3 on other TVs besides my main one sometimes.

I actually don't need components. It's the optical cable I need. Like my PS3, I have HDMI out of it to my TV. But the audio is on optical cable to my surround sound. (my tv only has rca outs)

Okay so you're in the same situation as me. My speakers and amp don't have HDMI in so I have to use optical. I don't even use the component on my switch. Just the optical and the ethernet

Clarification for the older behind-the-technology-curve crowd:

is this a device that will let me plug my stereo, Xbox, DVD, cable box, etc. into the back and then have HDMI outputs back to the TV and/or stereo?

    Thanks.

The one that everyone was linking to on monoprice is now back ordered. I fail for taking so long to look at this. That would have been perfect. I guess I have to make the trip out to Fry's. I don't think I'd trust one from Wal-mart. Thanks guys.

:D While we're all here, I'll ask another question. Is there an advantage to HDMI vs component? I'm eventually going to have someone run the component cables through the wall like the others, but if it makes sense I'll switch to HDMI instead.

HDMI, imo, has the great advantage that it's only 1 freaking cable. :)

Ok fine, not all that funny.

Shady, HDMI is far superior to Component and not just because it is one cable, although that is a big factor.

How many things are you trying to hook up, do you even need a switcher? Most TVs nowadays have multiple inputs.

For instance, upstairs, in the game room we have the following hooked up.

    Component 1 - Wii
    Component 2 - Xbox 360
    HDMI 1 - Cable
    HDMI 2 - PS3
    AV1 - DVD/VCR combo player
AV2 - Star Wars light sabre game

And I think we still have a few places left if we needed anything....

    Just cause I'm a girl, doesn't mean I'm completely clueless. ;)

I have 2 component connections and a total of 4 HDMI connections (3 back, 1 side). I have a Blu-Ray player and Comcast HD DVR. Problem is, the TV is on the wall, with all the connections run through the wall and my audio receiver and Blu-Ray player are in another corner of the room. There is only one set of component cables coming through the wall. I could connect my STB to the other component input on the TV, but I would have black wires hanging from the TV. :p

Ms. PinkXx, could you HDMI, Digital Coax, or Optical your sound out of the TV?

The problem shouldn't be the wall wires. You should be able to run MORE cables through the same "hole" on the wall.

EDIT: Sorry I missed your "HDMI vs. Component" question. I will reread and reiterate that you shouldn't have much trouble re-running the cables. We did this at Casa de MoBalls a while back. I would HIGHLY recommend HDMI.

If you can get all your sounds into your TV, and only ONE sound through digital coaxial (the orange one), HDMI, or Optical, you'd be in business.

HDMI is harder and much more expensive to run through the walls than component cables, so unless you're doing anything with 1080p, you might be better to stick with component.

What is the length that you want to run through the walls?

Here's my TV. It is 1080p and I think it need about 25 ft.

See, I don't know anything about running the cables through the wall. I just had someone do it for me. I don't know how much trouble it would be for them to run more stuff through there. I figured a component switcher would be the most convenient/cheapest. I need to upgrade my audio receiver, so I'll wait for your second suggestion.

I GOT THIS from the PDF of the TV:
    Nice TV (manual)!

Do you mind also posting the models of the other components?

Surround Sound System (if you have one)
    DVD player
    PS3, etc.?

I can tell you I have my setup as follows [search is off, so I will post what I have posted before]...

TV: Sony Wega LCD 1080i DLP HDTV - with optical sound out, 2HDMIs in, 2 components in, 2 RCA or S-Video in.

    SETUP:
DVD/VHS: DVDrecorder/VHSrecorder - Component/RCA Stereo out to TV (but can also do HDMI)
Game Console: PS3 with HDMI out to TV
STB: U-Verse Motorola - HDMI out to TV, RCA out to DVD recorder

Surround Sound: Yamaha with Optical in (that's all I am using from TV), RCA stereo in from DVD player just to listen to CDs without turning on TV. I leave the surround sound with "TV/DTV in" the entire time, unless I switch to the DVD audio.

I watch DVDs on the PS3, and use the DVD recorder to test DVD-RW, play VHS, etc.

In regards to running the cables, you want to protect the HDMI or Optical long cables with a tube or DUCT TAPE insulated with PAPER so it doesn't stick, and pull without hurting the connection. I would recommend doing it with a cheaper cable or AC extension cord BEFORE doing it with the actual HDMI or Optical cables. Good luck.

I actually find hdmi cables easier to run because they are thicker and it's only one cable. I bought mine from monoprice for less than a dollar a foot so it's not really that expensive.

Biggest advantage of HDMI is size (one cable versus 3 component/1 audio) and HD audio (blows away Dolby Digital).

 My dad told me to just wait and he'd have someone run the cables next week. I think I am going with HDMI and will try SwoLy's suggestion. Thanks for all the help guys.
