The Rockets wanted him - they brought him over and he wanted the offense to run through him day one. He didn’t get along with JVG either. Defensively he refused to do what he was told. He then was shocked he didn’t play. After awhile JVG got sick of him and started calling him “Billy” and that is what he was called for the rest of the year. JVG seldom talks poorly of players - he is still dismissive of “Billy”.

The Rockets changed coaches and Billy said he would not play in the USA ever again because he was homesick.

FWIW I don’t think he ever would have been a good NBA player in that era. He didn’t defend, had to have the ball in his hands and wasn’t mentally made for the NBA. Great Euro League player - but that’s it.

I hope Billy is doing well and relaxing on the beaches in Greece surrounded by the smell of burning tires and African refugees trying to land on the Greek shore to sneak into a non poor European country like France or UK.

 

Funny I had the impression he was a workhouse once he returned home....but yeah not everyone is the same in different countries.
