I've always wondered about this "obviously GOAT" thing. I don't think there is an objective way to compare players across different eras. So "obviously" is just an opinion, albeit a lot of people's opinion.

My own opinion is that there is no such thing as GOAT. It's hard enough to pick one single player as the best in his own generation, let alone across generations.

LeBron is more like Magic Johnson than Jordan.

Really think he needs to win this year to make that happen.

Going to 2-4 in the finals isn't ideal.

I've been a pretty big defender of LeBron in the past (particularly debunking the moronic "LeBron is a choker" narrative) and his postseason exploits are almost unparalleled in NBA history. Only a few players have put on performances like he has for about the last 7 years or so.

That said, I'm not particularly impressed by what he's done this year - the Cavaliers more or less got into the Finals by default due to a truly putrid field, and his individual numbers are merely very good, no longer great. Part of that is no doubt conserving energy but, I can't really see how this year adds to his legacy too much, particularly if it's a short finals loss.

He almost avg a 30 point trip dub in the conference finals. That's not great?

James is shooting the ball in the playoffs more than ever before and has been incredibly inefficient for him. His eFG% is down almost 20%. He is shooting 17% on three pointers in the playoffs compared 42% last season in the playoffs. His WS has fallen 50%.

I don't think that this has been an especially good regular season or playoffs for LeBron James.

He gets credit for reaching the Finals again, and I suppose just the long term accumulation of post season success means a lot..... but James has not been as good as previous years.

All I know is Jordan won his 3rd title at age 30. LeBron will have just as many rings at the same age if the Cavs win it all this year.

LeBron's 2 for 5 in the Finals maybe 3 for 6 if things go well this year. That's no Jordanesque. Can LeBron get to 6 rings? I don't think so. The west is too good to allow him 4 championships in the next 5 years.

In Lebron's ten playoff years, the East has had 30 teams win 50 games. By contrast, the West has had 59 teams.

In Jordan's 13 seasons with the Bulls, the East had 49 teams win 50.

It's not Jordanesque to have the same number of titles as Jordan at the same age, with an additional 3 Finals trips (as opposed to losing in an earlier round)?

I got no hollar against LeBron
I think Jordan is a product of the NIKE/GATORADE hype Machine
Not saying Jordan ain't great . . .. just that the margin between him and anyone else is much slimmer than people would like to believe
