Lol no I think most people who are old enough to have watched 80s ball remember that Jordan got swept by the Celtics in 86 en route to their championship.

That you think it reflects poorly on Jordan that they lost that game actually doesn't do justice to his performance. You sure you're remembering the right game? The fact that it went to double overtime and was so closely contested is one of the reasons why that game is famous. It's not like Jordan scored 63 versus Toronto in a blowout loss. That was THE game of those playoffs.

You're an expert houston fan right? Maybe you just dont know much about the Eastern conference or Jordan.

The reason why Jordan didn't advance all those years is simply because he didn't have the pieces. Boston and Detroit, the 2 best EC teams of the decade stood in his way. The thing that held him back is what held him back that 95 series you mention: No power forward/enforcer. Jordan already had Pippen but once he also got Horace Grant the Bulls flipped a switch. It was with the addition of that 3rd piece that Jordan got MVPs, Pippen started making allstar games, and Chicago started making deep runs in the playoffs into the ECFs. In 86 they were simply overmatched by a championship team

Logically speaking you cannot chastise Jordan for not being able to win when he didn't have the mechanical tools to get the job done. In other words that he couldn't singlehandedly deliver rings isn't really a legit criticism of anyone. There's never been any player who could do that even Wilt. Does not impact that Jordan was a great player... top 3 and arguably best ever.

I dunno if I'd call John Starks a "superstar." Jordan was a bully he even beat up Steve Kerr. But he was a bully in a basketball context. Kobe commits flagrant non-basketball transgressions on the court all the time like elbowing guys lying on the floor. Maybe to some that's no distinction but to me that line is crystal clear.

Jordan was pretty dirty as well but he didn't try to hurt anyone, i remember watching one of his training/teaching video where he would show you how to dribble, shoot, etc. he said he would grip his opponent by the waist really hard when he was playing defense and it would really tick them off and throw them off their game, dont know if anyone else have seen the vids, its like one of those magic fundamental crap..

    drop the chalupa dude.

I'm tell you what most Jordan fans ASSUME. Not people who HAD SEEN JORDAN PLAY. Jordan fans NOT ALWAYS = Jordans who ACTUALLY SAW HIM PLAY.
example people who know about the 63 point game weren't necessarily the ones who saw it when it happened.

example: I know Wilt scored 100 points. I never saw it or did I know anything about what his team did that year.

    reading comprehension please.

Kobe even getting compared to MJ makes him get a woody, I bet.

The difference between MJ and Kobe is even when MJ was undressing you, he was friends off the court.

JVG pointed that out and made it seem MJ was two faced. Got 50 dropped on his team for it.

Kobe copies MJ's walk, talk, attitude, etc. And it looks fake as hell.

Don't get me wrong, I think Kobe is the best player in the league...even better than LeBron since LeBron can't shoot as good.

But man. If you saw MJ during those 12 top years, you knew what legend was.

To me, there is no comparison between the two. And maybe I am old or whatever. But the top 10 players in that period of the 80's and 90's would run CIRCLES around the top 10 of today.

If you were there, you agree. Athleticism or not. Jordan would drop Kobe on his head if they played.

True. But what I liked about Jordan is what he said AFTER losing to Detroit in 1988.

He said something like: "They tried to keep me from going to the rim with hard...borderline cheap fouls. But not matter what, I am going to the hole and they can't stop me from trying".

Thats heart, right there. They didn't call ticky-tack **** back then. No blood. No foul. Slam you on your ass if you tried to dunk on ANYONE.

Kobe even said in his interview after game 2. It was 80's basketball.

no it was an NBA automatic fall if you dared to touch airness' shadow. carried the call all the time. and was highly over rated. Talentwise i take Kobe's talent.

although MJ did not rape people and i never saw him elbow anyone, and yes watched him from his college day until the end.

to me Kobe has beter baal handling, more moves in his arsenal, and better accuracy of his shot. But he is an Ass.

not all you MJ worshipers attck.

I'm not an MJ worshiper by any means but the defense Jordan played against the defense's kobe has played is not even remotely close.

Talent doesen't buy it, if it would only take talent to be the greatest in the nba, Tmac would of won mvp at least 3 times.

agree with you on that. Defensively Jordan was better. But, he was not not as versatile offensively early on in his career he was a slasher and dunker, later when he got sold it was turn around jump shots and occasional threes. Kobe' has had both almost from the 3rd year of his career.

MJ did not have to resort to dirty plays his game and dominating mentality spoke for itself on the court. Plus, the players held him in high regards to ever cheap shot him like Kobe did to Artest. Kobe is buckling mentally in my opinion. He only wishes people see him as this physical player like artest and looks like he's trying to prove that by talking smack and throwing low blows. Kobe's MJ imitations sickens me to my stomach.
